The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District has an opportunity for a Park Maintenance Worker to service Western Riverside County. The position will be stationed at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area, located in Riverside, or the satellite office located in Hemet
Park Maintenance Workers assist in the management of 50,000 acres of undeveloped County reserve land. Responsibilities include fabricating and installing fence lines and gates (both wood and metal), conducting hand tool, herbicide and heavy equipment weed abatement, picking-up illegally dumped trash piles, clearing homeless encampments and assisting with restoration projects.
Park Maintenance Workers will have experience utilizing and completing minor repairs on small engine tractors, riding mowers and small trucks; inspecting, identifying and repairing building maintenance issues . Additional responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance and repairs on chain saws, weed-whippers and blowers ; carpentry, electrical and plumbing.
Highly competitive candidates will have knowledge of power tools, equipment and materials used in maintenance work; basic vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance techniques, experience operating heavy equipment, such as, a John Deere tractor and Caterpillar Track Loaders.
While this position only requires a California Driver's License - Class C, candidates with a California Driver's License - Class A are highly desired. The d esired skill set includes understanding grounds work/maintenance, knowledge of herbicide and pesticide (QAL or QAC); proficiency with welding and i ntermediate Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
The position's schedule is a 9/80 with weekends off.
The Park Maintenance Worker - Parks is a first professional level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. This classification is characterized by having as its primary function grounds maintenance duties. Incumbents may perform public contact duties such as answering questions of park users regarding park facilities and informing users of park rules and regulations.
The Park Maintenance Worker - Parks is distinguished from the Grounds Worker classification by the former's assignment of skilled and semi-skilled work.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Maintain park facilities by mowing, raking, cleaning, fertilizing, and watering park areas; maintain and improve camp and picnic areas by removing brush, weeds, and other materials; clear and maintain equestrian trails; remove dead trees and branches by using chain and hand saws; plant and maintain trees; remove trash and debris from lake and shore areas.
• Move docks on lakes when water level changes; clean, sanitize, and service restrooms and other public facilities; clean, maintain, and build picnic tables, benches, camp stoves, fire pits, and similar park facilities.
• Operate a variety of trucks and tractors in hauling trash, dirt and rocks, and in clearing and leveling park areas and roadways.
• Perform minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work such as repairing faucets and sprinkler heads, replacing washers, unclogging drains, repairing electrical wall switches and ceiling lights, repairing benches and playground equipment, and replacing broken windows; perform semi-skilled maintenance work in cutting and laying pipe for the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, painting buildings and equipment, and laying bricks and rocks for retaining walls and drinking fountains.
• Maintain and perform minor repairs on vehicles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
Two years of performing grounds or building maintenance and repair, landscape gardening, or as a Park Attendant with the County of Riverside Parks Department. (College level courses from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience.)
Other Requirements
Possession of a valid California Driver's License; standing and/or walking for up to eight hours daily; moving and manipulating objects/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs; exposure to snakes, skunks, squirrels, dogs, wild pigs, coyotes, birds and their appropriate smells and/or dander. The majority of this position will entail working outdoors in inclement weather conditions (rain, sleet, wind and Summer temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit).
Knowledge Of
Common tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance work; basic vehicle preventive maintenance techniques.
Ability To
Read and follow written instructions and write simple reports; perform a variety of routine grounds, building, equipment, and vehicle preventive maintenance and repair; operate equipment, and learn procedures and safety techniques used in performing maintenance and minor construction projects; deal courteously and tactfully with the general public.

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
- Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.
- Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.
- Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. As of July 1, 2020, the employee contribution is 7.25% and subject to change annually.
A new member is defined as any of the following:
CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".
Contribution rates are subject to change based on the County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
