Minimum Education:
- Technical Degree/Certificate in Paralegal Studies or related field.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in document production, utilizing Office 365 and Adobe software with advanced proficiency.
- Previous experience in a legal office setting is preferred.
Job Duties:
- Assist Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) and Bureau staff in drafting and preparing legal documents for state and federal litigation, including legal research, formatting review, drafting pleadings, discovery demands, motions, memoranda, affidavits, privilege logs, and inserting tables of authorities into briefs.
- Handle hard copy filing (via mail) and electronic filing (via NYSCEF and CM/ECF) of litigation papers and conduct case searches through PACER.
- Coordinate process service through contracted service companies or in-house service by mail or at government offices.
- Organize and manage litigation documents, including agency administrative records, discovery responses, and FOIL responses.
- Utilize electronic document management software such as Concordance, Relativity, Adobe Acrobat 2017, Microsoft SharePoint, and OneDrive for document organization and retrieval.
- Act as the primary point of contact for electronic discovery coordination, working closely with the Practice Technologies Group within the Information Technology Bureau.
- Read and evaluate agency referrals and legal pleadings, collaborate with client agencies, and provide strategic options and responses to AAGs.
- Oversee FOIL requests for the bureau, manage case data using NYMatters, and conduct legal research as needed.
- Assist with office workflow coordination, staffing, system training, and perform investigative functions such as corporation searches and judgment collection work.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with federal and state court rules and procedures.
- Experience with legal document drafting and formatting.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Miscellaneous Information:
- Shift timing for this role is 8:30am 5:00pm with a one-hour lunch break.
- Parking is available for a fee in various lots, and meter parking is available on the streets.
- Close proximity to CDTA Bus for public transportation.
- Interviews will be conducted in-person at the above location.
- Training will be provided to enhance job-specific skills and knowledge.
