Description
Liberty Mutual Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Paralegal to join our team and provide legal support to attorneys and professionals on litigation, corporate or business matters.
Responsibilities:
- Review both the Claims records and Legal files to respond to interrogatories or discovery demands. Updates/posts ACES OR BOCOMP with all relevant work completed on a file.
- Respond to court calendar calls, or WC Boards to resolve disputes. May negotiate settlements at WC Boards. Acts as liaison between WC Board and Claims. May arrange payment plans with policyholders to recover monies owed.
- Prepare standard pleadings; drafts motions in higher court cases utilizing computer software.
- Handle investigations including locating witnesses, interviewing witnesses, photographing accident scenes and obtaining evidence for trial.
- Assist attorneys in trial preparation procedures.
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, ensuring foundational knowledge for effective legal assistance.
- Hold a paralegal certificate, which is strongly preferred to demonstrate professional qualifications and credibility.
- Maintain 1-3 years of experience as a paralegal, specifically with a focus on attending Workers Compensation Boards when preferred.
- Utilize excellent oral and written communication skills to interface effectively with attorneys, clients, and policyholders.
- Employ strong negotiation and persuasion skills to mediate settlements and deliver compelling oral arguments.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of legal liability, Workers Compensation terminology, and the applicable state's Workers Compensation statutes, regulations, and guidelines.
- Exercise independent judgment to make informed decisions in the course of legal duties.
- Display effective proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and corporate databases to manage documentation and information effectively.
- Reviews both Claims records and Legal files to respond to interrogatories or discovery demands. Updates/posts case management system or electronic claim system with all relevant work completed on a file.
- Develops thorough pre-trial summary reports. Reviews case information including medical records and/or investigative material to prepare digests or summaries.
- Drafts standard pleadings, documents and motions utilizing computer software.
- Supports telephonic investigations including locating witnesses, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining evidence for trial.
- Assists attorneys in trial preparation procedures.
- Effectively utilizes technology to provide all necessary support.
- Other duties may vary according to court/state jurisdictions.
- Ability to work successfully with remote team members.
