Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Painter - Full Time Evenings 03:30 PM - 12:00 AM Monday - Friday - Plant Maint & Repair - Facility M.
In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision and according to established procedures, performs necessary painting and refinishing of interior and exterior building surfaces and furnishings. In doing so, smoothes surfaces, fills holes and cracks, and applies coats of paint, varnish, stain and the like, using such equipment as paintbrushes, rollers and scrapers. Performs any and all other duties as directed by Engineering Management/Leadership whether of an emergent nature or otherwise and assists other maintenance personnel as needed
Job Responsibilities:
- Ability to prioritize work requests.
- Communicate with requestor or area supervisor regarding repairs needed, job progress and completion of all work requests.
- At beginning of each shift, communicate with maintenance foreperson regarding the days agenda and goals.
- Organize work cart with supplies and materials needed to complete assignments to minimize return trips to shop for supplies.
- Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, sealer, enamel lacquer, and the like in order to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, furniture and equipment using painting apparatus as appropriate.
- Prepares area for painting by removing fixtures and wall plates, masking around areas being painted with tape and paper, and spreading drop cloths over furniture and floor to protect from paint splatters.
- Prepares surfaces for finish by filling holes and imperfections using spackle and plaster and other appropriate fillers as needed.
- Prepares surfaces for finish by using sandpaper, wire brushes, steel wool and other appropriate material deemed necessary to remove all imperfections.
- Maintains an inventory of paints, finishes, supplies needed to meet the anticipated need of the facility.
- Maintains a current reference log by documenting the date, color and manufacturer and area painted.
- Prepares wall surfaces for paint by taping and spackling areas to create a finished surface suitable for priming and painting.
- Coordinates with outside contractor and facility personnel when arranging and scheduling areas to be painted by contractor.
- The ability to repair damaged walls by replacing construction material (studs. Sheetrock, etc.) as needed.
- To prepare floor surface for new floor installation using various types of patching and leveling materials as necessary.
- Capable of repairing/replacing VCT tile floor following manufacturer installation instructions.
- Installs vinyl cove base according to manufacturer recommended installation instructions.
- Capable of maintaining and repairing suspended ceiling system by replacing grid system and tiles as necessary.
- Maintains a safe work environment in and out of department by cleaning up area when jobs are complete.
- Performs minor electrical work.
- Performs minor plumbing.
- Performs minor equipment repair.
- Responds to service calls and completes paper work upon job completion.
- Assembles furniture and equipment following manufacturers instruction manual as required.
- Maintains work equipment by repairing/reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment immediately when discovered.
- Repairs patient related equipment including but not limited to beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, IV poles, etc.
- Performs any and all duties as directed by engineering management whether of an emergent nature or otherwise and assists other maintenance personnel as needed.
- Follow safe operation guidelines of all equipment used for ground maintenance. (Snow blowers, tractor with plow, grass cutting equipment, etc.).
- Maintains cleanliness, safety and ascetic qualities of all hospital grounds and building (trash removal and cleaning of break areas, walkways and parking lots).
- Informs supervisory staff of problems with equipment to ensure repair or replacement of equipment is expedited before conditions require it to be use again.
- Assists the Engineering Department with the process of snow/ice removal when necessary.
- Complete daily time report at the end of each shift.
- Complete purchase orders. Maintain records of materials ordered, received and returned.
- Thoroughly describes actions taken/or additional actions needed on each work order or PM ticket.
- Maintains and documents required preventive maintenance testing results and ensures and documents that corrective actions for any deficiencies found during testing are complete.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalency.
Minimum of 2 years experience in painting industry.
Ability to stand/walk for an entire 7.5 hour shift.
Knowledge of painting tools, techniques, paints and painting products used in the trade and the ability to correctly use them.
Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail.
Ability to lift heavy objects and material.
BLS certification, de-escalation and first aid training.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $69,413.76 - $77,554.88 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
