Our client is a large Agricultural Manufacturing company in Merced that is looking for Paint Preps to prepare Ag Machinery body or other surfaces for painting. Paint Prep Technicians are responsible for preparing surfaces for painting in manufacturing. They play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and longevity of painted surfaces by properly prepping them beforehand. As a paint prep technician, you will prepare Ag Machinery body or other surface for painting. Job duties include all aspects of preparation. Your responsibilities involve steps such as the removal of dirt from the surface and parts due for painting. You may sand, polish, retouch, buff, degrease, or otherwise clean the surface. You may also mix color, blend paint, and load paint into spray-painting equipment. A paint prep technician may sometimes need to apply primer to the surface to prepare and protect it until the painters perform their job.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean and prepare surfaces by sanding, masking, filling cracks, and repairing imperfections to ensure proper adhesion of paint.
2. Inspection: Inspect surfaces for damage, corrosion, or other defects that may affect the quality of the paint job and take necessary corrective actions.
3. Equipment Setup: Set up and maintain painting equipment, including sanders, sprayers, brushes, and masking tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
4. Material Handling: Handle and mix paints, primers, and other coatings according to specifications, ensuring proper ratios and consistency for optimal results.5. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when handling hazardous materials, operating machinery, and working at heights to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
6. Quality Control: Conduct quality checks during the preparation process to ensure surfaces are properly prepped and ready for painting, meeting industry standards and customer requirements.
7. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with painters, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate workflow, prioritize tasks, and achieve project deadlines effectively.
8. Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered during the preparation process for documentation and future reference.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform resupply of inventory on parts.
2. Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
3. Notify supervisor to order materials from other work areas when needed.
4. Maintain material supply adhering to just in time and lean manufacturing principles.
5. Maintain VOC logs
6. Maintain a cooperative positive attitude to accomplish work goals of the job and work group.

8. Ability to read and understand work orders
9. Ability to read tape measure and caliper
10. Knowledge and use of basic hand tools
11. Adhere to meal/break policy
12. Maintains good attendance and punctuality

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certification in auto body repair, painting, or related fields is advantageous.
2. Experience: Prior experience in paint preparation, auto body repair, construction, or a similar role is preferred.
3. Knowledge: Understanding of surface preparation techniques, paint mixing, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
4. Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and address surface imperfections, follow instructions accurately, and maintain high standards of quality and precision.
5. Physical Fitness: Good physical condition with the ability to stand, bend, lift heavy objects, and work in various environmental conditions for extended periods.
6. Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and clients professionally.
7. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues, make informed decisions, and adapt to changing project requirements quickly.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION/WORK CONDITIONS:
1. Strength and Endurance: Paint Prep Technicians may need to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks such as sanding, scrubbing, and lifting heavy objects.
2. Manual Dexterity: Precise hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills are necessary for tasks such as sanding, masking, and applying coatings.
3. Bending and Stooping: The job often involves working in awkward positions to access different areas for surface preparation.
4. Lifting and Carrying: Paint Prep Technicians may need to lift and carry heavy equipment, materials, or objects, requiring physical strength and proper lifting techniques.
5. Working at Heights: In some cases, the job may require working on ladders, scaffolds, or elevated platforms to reach high surfaces, which entails a level of comfort with heights and adherence to safety protocols.
6. Indoor and Outdoor Work: Paint Prep Technicians may work in indoor facilities such as auto body shops, construction sites, or manufacturing plants, as well as outdoor environments like construction sites or outdoor painting projects.
7. Variable Temperatures: Depending on the work environment, Paint Prep Technicians may be exposed to fluctuating temperatures, humidity, and weather conditions.
8. Chemical Exposure: Handling paints, solvents, primers, and other chemical substances is common in this role, necessitating adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and respirators.
9. Noise and Vibrations: Working with power tools and equipment can expose Paint Prep Technicians to high levels of noise and vibrations, requiring the use of hearing protection and ergonomic practices to minimize the risk of injury.
10. Collaborative Environment: Paint Prep Technicians often work as part of a team, collaborating with painters, supervisors, and other professionals to complete projects efficiently and meet deadlines.
11. Overtime and Shift Work: Welders may be required to work overtime, evenings, weekends to support production schedules and meet customer deadlines. They should be flexible and willing to adjust their work hours as needed to accommodate business needs.

Pay Rate: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour.
