POSITION SUMMARY
A PACS administrator is a healthcare professional who works to maintain the picture archiving and communications systems (PACs) to ensure functionality and efficiency. They are also responsible for the day to day operation and quality control activities of the PACs. They must also be able to support additional radiology applications such as Powerscribe 360, NovaRad, Muse, etc.. The PACs Administrator oversees equipment maintenance, systems testing, upgrading and installation. PACS administrators combination of experience in clinical healthcare and knowledge of information technology helps to deliver quality medical images and other data to providers, vendors and patients. The PACs Administrator is a liaison between the Radiology Department, customer and the Information Technology Department. They also maintain a good working relationship with all vendors.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Coordinate with all radiologists and perform troubleshoot on systems and administer everyday activities of PACS system.
- Install and provide support to remote workstations and monitor all complex application administration and perform tests on same and recommend changes to improve working of PACS unit
- Analyze user processes and ensure optimal utilization of system and provide end user support at all times.
- Provides after hours support for night and weekend
- Monitor all tasks and resolve all issues related to PACS applications and associate equipment, perform troubleshooting on all moderate and complex issues and provide appropriate feedback.
- Troubleshoots and problem solves when hardware, network, and / or software problems occur
- Maintain knowledge on all PACS systems and work processes and monitor all logs for error in applications.
- Coordinate with vendors and various departments to resolve all issues and perform troubleshoot on PACS system to provide application support and maintain system tables.
- Analyze and design various user access applications and ensure data security and ensure effective configuration changes to all applications.
- Oversee all tests on systems and ensure effective implementation of all test processes, analyze results and recommend upgrades or changes to avoid workstation crash.
- Implements, tests and installs new systems and applications within an enterprise change control process
- Ensure compliance to standard operating procedures for all applications and install and upgrade all projects.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures, in cooperation with IT, to assure that system monitoring and effective backup procedures are followed
- Develop training manuals, provide training for new employee and on-going training to physicians, clinicians, RNs, techs
- Troubleshoots and problem solves when hardware, network, and / or software problems occur
- Supports projects and ongoing applications for information and imaging technologies
- Manage all interfaces into the Meditech system
- Maintain ITS dictionaries in Meditech
AA or AS Degree in Computer Science or relevant field or equivalent of two (2) years’ experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- PACS administrators must be familiar with industry programs and systems, including digital imaging and communications (DICOM) in medicine, HL7 standards and IHE strategies. It's also helpful to learn the SQL programming language and database systems.
- PACS administrators should be able to converse with medical professionals, including cardiologists, radiologists, technicians, nurses and assistants. They should understand the flow of medical information and diagnostic processes.
- PACS administrators must be able to explain highly technical information to laypersons, including providers, vendors and patients. They should speak clearly and effectively.
- PACS administrators may work with multiple clients, offices and systems. They should be able to organize and prioritize their duties to meet their professional demands.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. Employee will work in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand hygiene practices, Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated; is subject to interruptions and noise daily.
