Packaging Technicians will perform packaging activities under the company specifications and schedules. Under the direction of the Production Supervisors and Operations Manager, this person will help drive Boochcraft toward greater competitiveness and customer satisfaction through improvements in delivery, capacity, yield, and quality. The Packaging Technician is responsible for overall packaging operations which include kegging, canning, and general warehousing. This individual will work as a valuable team member, and the position’s focus is on performing packaging activities efficiently, safely, and at the highest quality.

- Ensure short and long-term production goals, objectives, and schedules are met, subject to approval by the Production Supervisors.
- Startup and sanitization of packaging equipment (verify functionality)
- Ensure proper startup of direct and ancillary packaging equipment.
- Monitor and ensure product quality on their equipment.
- Mechanical adjustments as necessary to guarantee conforming packaging quality.
- Sample collection for QA analysis.
- Collect data and generate daily production reports for their equipment.
- Changeover of packaging equipment to accommodate different can sizes and container types. (12,16, and 19.2 oz cans, 4,6, and 16 pack cases)
- Review packaged Booch quality in bottles, cans, and kegs - including packaging material quality according to established protocols. This includes working with Brewery personnel to determine the root cause and possible solutions for analytical issues.
- Adhere to the Quality Management System and provide inputs toward continually improving its scope and effectiveness.
- Report any major defects or quality issues to the packaging lead or production supervisor.
- Operate packaging lines (canning and kegging.)
- Use a forklift to move materials and finished products.
- Unload packaging materials from pallets.
- Load finished products onto pallets.
- Effectively communicate to, and coordinate with, warehouse personnel about staging and return of packaging materials in a timely manner.
- Follow SOPs to ensure that products are packaged consistently.
- Works closely with the Packaging Lead to ensure the smooth operation of packaging machinery and equipment.
- Performs daily start-up and clean in place (CIP) procedures on all assigned packaging stations.
- Works with Engineering department to assist with diagnosing equipment problems and troubleshooting.
- Accurately complete and update information forms and production records.
- May manually operate all phases of packaging in the case of machinery failure/maintenance.
- Embrace continuous improvement.
- Assist with training other employees when required.
- Housekeeping: maintain general housekeeping in all areas of production, including the break rooms and restrooms.
- This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Brewery Supervisors, Packaging Manager, and/or by the Director of Brewery Operations.
What You'll Need:
- Education: A combination of coursework and on-the-job training that provides the technical skills necessary to understand essential components and processes of a manufacturing facility.
- Experience: This person will have at least 2 years of experience working within a production or manufacturing facility.
- Preferred experience: At least 1 year of hands-on experience at a brewery producing no less than 5,000 BBL/year where they will have experienced in bottle, can, or keg filling experience.
- License or Certification: Previous forklift experience preferred.
- Specialized Skills: This person must be able to multi-task and be detailed orientated. This person should have the ability to manipulate large quantities of bottles, packaging materials, hoses, pallets, etc. by hand. Have the ability to work independently as well as with a team. This person must be able to troubleshoot mechanical problems with packaging equipment, have technical and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate also has the ability to coordinate tasks in the department in order to assist the Packaging Lead and keep the department operating efficiently.
- Physical Requirements: They must be able to perform physical activities which include but are not limited to lifting, bending over, kneeling, twisting, climbing on ladders, stooping, crouching, and routinely lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. They may be required to stand for various hours at a time. This person is expected to use/operate latches, hand tools, clamps, hoses, pumps, valves, etc., that will require dexterity, manipulation, and hand-eye coordination. They must be able to work anytime within a 1st or 2nd shift window with the occasional overnight and/or weekend coverage. They will be expected to occasionally handle hazardous chemicals.
This position pays $18.75 to $21.75 per hour.
