Operator I, Packaging Operations
Location: San Diego, CA (8049 Arjons Drive, San Diego, CA 92126)
Pay Rate: $22.05/hour
Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Operator I to join our Packaging Operations team. In this role, you will perform packaging tasks in a laboratory production environment, working with liquid antibodies and related materials. This is a 6-12 month assignment with opportunities to support critical manufacturing operations and quality assurance processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Packaging Operations:
- Prepare, fill, and dispense liquid antibodies into vials using laboratory equipment such as pipettes, peristaltic pumps, and analytical balances.
- Perform labeling, bagging, and packaging processes in compliance with established protocols.
- Inspect in-process packaging components and finished products to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
- Perform manual inspection, labeling, and packaging of clinical and commercial products.
- Materials Management:
- Organize, store, and retrieve packaging supplies and materials.
- Ensure accuracy in production order setup and present materials for line clearance verification.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation of packaging activities, including device history records and inventory counts.
- Input data into SAP or other production planning/manufacturing resource systems.
- Team Support:
- Participate in shift start-up meetings and communicate changes in priorities as needed.
- Collaborate with team members for ergonomic safety during large kit assembly events.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Comply with BD Biosciences Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures.
- Handle hazardous waste as required.
Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 6 months of industry experience, preferably in a science or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with liquid dispense/packaging equipment such as pipettes, peristaltic pumps, and analytical balances.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations, including metric system understanding.
- Familiarity with computers and general business software.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work in a laboratory production area with lab benches for packaging activities.
- May stand or sit during tasks; most technicians choose to stand.
- Manage items weighing up to 20-30 pounds (assistance available as needed).
- Wear long pants or skirts, closed-toe shoes, lab coats, gloves, and goggles as required.
