Qualifications:
The position is for a package testing and support technician. This position supports the Packaging Engineers and coordinates materials, testing, test reports, and some administration work with regards to new product launches and product/package qualifications. The lab contains several specific test machines like compression tester, pump force tester, vacuum chamber, wall thickness measurement, bottle fillers, heat sealers for films/pouches and tubes. The technician would learn how to use these (training and written procedures provided), and do these tests and provide the data and results in typed reports. He / She will be responsible for coordinating and running e-Commerce shipping tests - through ISTA standardized testing. This is the one job area that does require some lifting of cases (up to 35 lbs) for the testing. About 20% of job is doing this type of testing. The role will support Package Engineers in doing their jobs – to include coordination of line trials, documentation, and reporting. In addition, this role will manage the stability testing and qualification of new bottle blow molds in their formulas. Concise documentation and reporting is critical in this role. The position will be supported and directed by another Lab Technician and staff Packaging Engineer. Should have a minimum of 1 years’ experience as a lab technician or other retail packaging field in a manufacturing environment or a bachelor’s degree in a technical field like Packaging Science with 0-3 years’ experience • Must be familiar with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Experience with CAPE, Artios, and CAD is a plus, not required. • Self-starter, able to work on their own and small teams, seeks out new work and responsibilities is important. • While some work is benchtop based, most involves active movement doing different activities, can involve setup/repair of small equipment, filling/capping/labeling of bottles – ability to manage time and multiple activities is a plus
Responsibilities:
The successful technician will be performing but not limited to the following activities: • Participate and lead testing of package components and materials • Work with suppliers, Package Engineers, Package Testing Engineers, and cross functional team members to drive projects to completion • Assist in the design and development of project-related packaging components • Assist in the initiation and coordination of plant trials – usually by helping to create the trial documents. • Creation and maintenance of package testing plans * • Assist engineers on Sustainability metrics development and product benchmarking studies – usually by gathering data on packaging in market now, or new packaging examples. Products that will be worked on include: • Laundry products, Body Personal care products (soap, bodywash), Hair care and hair coloring products – retail and Salon versions.
