Wahl Clipper Corporation, a global manufacturer of branded Consumer and Professional products, has an exciting opportunity for a team-oriented individual to fill the role of Packaging Engineer located at our Global Headquarters in Sterling, Illinois.
The Packaging Development Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing packaging solutions focused on our professional division with some supervision. This role involves creating innovative packaging solutions that meet customer requirements and delight the end-user's experience. The Packaging Development Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, operations, and shipping to ensure that all packaging solutions align with our sustainability goals and high-quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design and develop innovative packaging solutions with limited supervision for new and existing products across multiple product lines.
- Conduct material and structural analysis to ensure packaging integrity and performance.
- Collaborate with product development teams to understand packaging requirements and constraints.
- Design Point of Purchase (POP) displays to be used at both shows and retail.
- Create detailed packaging specifications, drawings, and prototypes.
- Evaluate and select appropriate packaging materials.
- Oversee testing and validation of packaging designs to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Maintain packaging Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure smooth setup processes into our system.
- Optimize packaging designs for cost, sustainability, and manufacturability.
- Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in packaging design.
- Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing and quality teams.
- Maintain dimensional information for our current catalog of products.
- Assist with the Pre-Production Approval Process (P-PAP).
- Maintain and create Bill of Materials (BOM) for packaging-related projects.
- Support production issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of relevant job experience in packaging design and development, preferably in the electronics industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks) and other design tools.
- Strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Some supervision or oversight will be required.
- Experience with sustainable packaging solutions and eco-friendly materials preferred
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for packaging preferred
- Experience with packaging testing and validation methods desired
