POSITION SUMMARY
- Responsible for all phases of production packaging; oversees the designs and development of shipping containers and internal dunnage that fulfill customer requirements while giving diligent consideration to safety, function, quality, cost and logistics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage all aspects of production packaging from concept to implementation and beyond with minimal supervision
- Develop new or modify existing packaging to meet customer and plant requirements
- Verify functionality of new packaging; test packaging as required and evaluate the results
- Determine fleet sizes based on volume, density and logistics; provide cost justifications
- Quote and procure all returnable packaging
- Investigate opportunities for cost savings
- Support plants on special work-in-process packaging, as required
- Maintain thorough familiarity with packaging materials; continue to seek out new and improved materials/applications in the industry
- Work with plant personnel and corporate cross functional teams to resolve open issues
- Maintain detailed records, including packaging database and plant tracking matrix
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- 4 year college degree in business or technical field preferred or equivalent experience
- 5 years packaging experience preferred, preferably with a Tier 1 automotive supplier
SPECIAL SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of standard Windows-based applications such as Excel and Word
- Strong familiarity with automotive packaging, including totes, bins, racks, and the dunnage used in each
- Familiarity with OEM packaging websites
- Familiarity with part prints and CAD data
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Normal office environment
- Normal shop environment, which includes travel to plant sites; use of personal protection equipment; hazards and conditions typically associated with a manufacturing environment
