Oliver Inc. is looking for an experienced PackagingDesigner to join our team. The person will be responsible for creating innovative folding carton concepts utilizing creativity, imagination and originality based on Customer requests. The ideal candidate will take ownership in exceeding customer's needs and production feasibility, understanding all phases of the design process from conceptual to strategic, and tactical to implementation. The Packaging Designer will collaborate with all the departments involved, timely providing clear and accurate structural drawings, running projects with little support. The successful candidate possesses experience working with vendors and providing accurate files in a variety of formats for printing plate and cutting die orders.
About the Role:
As our Packaging Designer, you will:
- Develop structural designs that meet or exceed customer requirements for cost, quality and functionality.
- Lead the design process for folding carton packaging which includes brainstorming, sketching, and creating prototypes.
- Communicate directly with clients to understand their packaging needs.
- Evaluate consumer and market trends for paperboard packaging materials.
- Conduct research relating to technology, techniques, innovations, new products, and new materials.
- Understand and optimize material choices based on customer requirements and material availability. Provide guidance regarding most cost-effective designs.
- Create designs using CAD, Cimex and Artios.
- Operating and maintaining the sample cutting table.
- Manage multiple projects at one time while meeting deadlines for each.
- Convert sketches and ideas into 2D/3D display models with cutting tables and knife tools.
- Liaison between customer and production to ensure project is being executed to customer's expectations. Review Designs with production to ensure accuracy and quality.
About You:
You're a fit for the role of Packaging Designer if your background includes:
- Comprehensive understanding of paperboard packaging techniques and structural packaging design.
- A high school diploma or equivalent; a degree in a related field is a plus.
- 5+ years of job-related experience.
- Experience operating a sample cutting table.
- Proficiency with Cimex and Artios CAD, as well as Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with Adobe applications is a plus.
- Ability to work as a team player and manage multiple tasks with deadlines while maintaining high standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail and excellent vision.
- Good time management skills
