Veterinary Technician – ER & Critical Care (Overnights)

We’re looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or an experienced Senior Veterinary Assistant to join our team and make a meaningful impact in emergency and critical care.

Hourly Compensation:$30 - $40 hourly $5.50 overnight differential
Sign-On Bonus: Up to $7,000 for RVTs | Up to $5,000 for experienced Vet Assistants
Work Schedule
- Full-time, 4/10 or 3/12 schedule
- Overnight shifts with $5.50/hour differential
- Some weekends and holidays required
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Room Technician Responsibilities
- Triage incoming patients promptly, assessing severity and prioritizing care.
- Obtain and record patient histories through SOAP notes and communicate findings with the veterinary team.
- Monitor and record vital signs (TPR, blood pressure, SpO2, ECG, pain scoring, etc.) to assess patient stability.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies, initiating immediate interventions such as oxygen therapy, CPR, and wound stabilization.
- Administer emergency treatments, including IV fluid therapy, blood transfusions, and wound management.
- Place intravenous (IV) catheters, intraosseous (IO) catheters, and central lines as needed.
- Perform in-house laboratory diagnostics, including bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, and blood gas analysis.
- Safely handle and restrain patients, including those who are fractious, fearful, or in pain.
- Assist in emergency surgical procedures, such as GDV stabilization, wound repairs, foreign body removals, and splenectomies.
- Maintain proper documentation, ensuring accuracy in patient charts, treatment logs, and discharge summaries.
- Educate and support pet owners, providing compassionate updates and discharge instructions.
- Assist in crash cart maintenance and readiness, ensuring all emergency drugs and supplies are stocked.
Critical Care Unit Technician Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to critically ill or post-surgical patients, ensuring continuous monitoring and intervention.
- Perform and oversee advanced hospitalization procedures, including continuous rate infusions (CRIs), total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and mechanical ventilation.
- Monitor telemetry and ECG readings, recognizing arrhythmias and other critical changes.
- Conduct in-depth patient assessments, noting changes in condition and reporting to the veterinary team.
- Administer medications via various routes (IV, IM, SQ, PO) with precision and accuracy.
- Implement pain management protocols, including CRIs, epidurals, and multimodal approaches.
- Oversee fluid therapy management, calculating and adjusting fluid rates based on patient needs.
- Accurately document and communicate patient status during rounds and shift changes.
- Maintain a clean and sterile ICU environment, ensuring proper infection control protocols.
- Provide emotional support to pet owners, helping them navigate difficult decisions and end-of-life care.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required
- RVT certification preferred. Minimum of 5 years of consecutive experience in an ER/CCU setting
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations for drug dosages, CRIs, invoices, and estimates
- California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) required within 60 days of hire (waived for CA-RVTs)
