The Oral Surgery Assistant must have have the following:

- Greets and directs patients, provides routine information on procedures, and escorts patients to and from the service area.
- Assists patients in scheduling required follow-up appointments.
- Prepares room and instruments for the scheduled procedure.
- Ensures instruments and materials are in place and prepared for use.
- Takes, checks, and properly saves and files diagnostic radiographs and patient photos.
- Takes dental impressions and produces study models.
- Pours and trims hand and foot models.
- Provides technical assistance during oral and plastic surgery procedures under local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and/or IV sedation.
- Assists surgeon as instructed by displaying radiographic images and passing instruments and materials.
- Monitors and records patient vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
- Provides patients/parents with written instructions for post-operative care and proper follow-up.
- Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensures operatory and exam rooms are cleaned and instruments are sterilized prior to patient examinations/procedures.
The Oral Surgery Assistant must have have the following:
- High School/GED
- Basic CPR Certification.
- Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB). If not already obtained, obtain Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) through the Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) within the first 18 months of employment.
