KU MedWest Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Operating Room nursing leader who is ready for an exciting career opportunity in a busy ambulatory surgery center. The candidate must be able to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency and safety in a fast-paced setting. The candidate must have a collaborative, friendly working style with experience and knowledge to be a resource to the entire perioperative team.
KU MedWest Ambulatory Surgery Center is a multi-specialty outpatient facility jointly owned and operated by the University of Kansas Health System and physician investors. The facility has 3 ORs and 1 procedure room with 6 recovery bays; Specialties include, but are not limited to: Gastroenterology, Pain Management, ENT, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Plastics, & Ophthalmology, 7000+ cases/year. Fast paced, friendly environment; located in Shawnee off 435 and Midland with easy access to parking.
Shift:
The ASC operates from 6:30am to 4:30pm, Monday- Friday. No weekends, no holidays, no call.
Key Responsibilities :
- Responsible for facilitating the day-to-day clinical operations of the Pre/Post and OR setting, including staffing, communicating with interdepartmental teams and physicians, and serving as a first line resource for staff and surgeons
- Scrubbing and/or Circulating as needed
- Leading daily OR huddle at 7am and PACU huddle at 7:40am
- Daily assignments and staff schedule for approximately 15 OR teammates and 15 Pre/Post teammates
- Assists with CMS and AAAHC accreditation survey readiness, monthly quality and infection control audits and responsibilities
- Assists Director of Nursing with HR responsibilities, such as performance evaluations and orientation plans
- Identifies educational opportunities and coordinates in-service and training
- Troubleshooting equipment, contacting vendors
- Collaborates with Materials Manager to ensure relevant inventory and supply chain needs
- Delegates appropriate resources to maintain accuracy of preference cards
- Maintains services in accordance with written policies and in compliance with various regulatory and accrediting agencies
- Is a member of the clinical leadership team, reports to Director of Nursing (DON)
- Collaborates with Medical Director, physicians and other departments to ensure delivery of exceptional patient care
- Maintains an approachable, positive attitude
- Practices servant leadership to serve our patients and team
Requirements:
- Current unrestricted KS nursing license required (or appropriate multi-state license)
- BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required within 6 months of hire
- BSN preferred, will consider ADN with relevant OR experience
- Minimum 3 years multi-specialty OR experience
- Minimum 2 years leadership/management experience
- Experience with an EMR (Epic)
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies, infection control practices, and quality improvement
- ASC experience preferred
- Certification (CNOR, CCRN, RN-BC) preferred
- Member of local and national societies preferred (AORN, ANA, KSNA)
