As an Optometry Technician with Choctaw Workforce Solutions (CWS), you will be instrumental in supporting the vision health of Service Members (SMs). This role allows you to leverage your skills in patient care and diagnostic testing within a structured, high-quality healthcare setting dedicated to optimizing vision care and readiness for military personnel.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patient Intake & Assessment:
- See an average of ten (10) to twelve (12) patients per hour, conducting initial interviews to gather medical history, visual complaints, and family histories of vision conditions.
- Identify and report any unconventional symptoms or issues potentially affecting vision health.
- Diagnostic Testing & Data Collection:
- Administer various visual tests to gather preliminary data and conduct specialized exams under optometric guidelines.
- Set up equipment and conduct diagnostic tests, ensuring test accuracy and reporting any unusual results or issues to the optometrist or supervisor.
- Patient Care Documentation & Records Management:
- Maintain complete, legible, and accurate documentation for all care provided ensuring all notes, test results, and reports meet or exceed established standards for timeliness, accuracy, and content.
- Complete each patient encounter by the end of the day and close records promptly within twenty-four (24) hours.
- Productivity & Compliance:
- Adhere to productivity standards and maintain a level of performance consistent with other team members.
- Ensure compliance with health, immunization, and vaccination requirements, and complete all specified DoD, DHA, and MTF training.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of an optometry technician course:
- Alternatively, certification obtained through the Army, Navy, or Air Force Optometry Technician program.
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of full-time experience within the past three (3) years as an optometry technician, with experience in patient care and diagnostic testing.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Skills & Competencies:
- Attention to Detail:
- Highly accurate in data collection and documentation ensuring quality patient care.
- Communication Skills:
- Capable of explaining procedures clearly to SMs and reporting key details to optometrists or team leads.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Skilled in setting up diagnostic equipment and interpreting test results.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Location:
- Work will primarily be performed at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) and affiliated facilities within a forty (40) mile radius with potential assignments based on operational needs.
Schedule:
- Hours may vary based on mission requirements, including surge support during mobilizations and demobilizations. Flexibility is required to meet mission demands.
Compliance
- Follow government, DoD, and MTF clinical standards, and record work hours accurately in DMHRSi and other required systems.
