About the Job
Our client provides comprehensive eye care services, with a focus on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of eye diseases. They perform thorough eye examinations, prescribe corrective lenses, and detect eye-related medical conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. In collaboration with ophthalmologists and other healthcare providers, the Medical Optometrist delivers high-quality patient care, including pre- and post-operative care.
Key Responsibilities:
Eye Examinations and Diagnostics:
- Conduct comprehensive eye and vision examinations using specialized instruments and techniques.
- Diagnose vision abnormalities and eye health issues such as refractive errors, eye infections, dry eye, and more severe ocular diseases.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment (e.g., fundus cameras, OCT, tonometers) to detect early signs of eye diseases.
Medical Eye Care:
- Manage and treat a variety of ocular conditions such as glaucoma, conjunctivitis, cataracts, and corneal diseases.
- Prescribe medications for eye-related infections and conditions (as per licensure).
- Provide post-surgical eye care for patients recovering from procedures such as LASIK, cataract surgery, or other eye surgeries.
- Manage patients with chronic systemic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, ensuring eye health is regularly monitored.
Patient Counseling:
- Educate patients about eye health, preventive care, and the management of diagnosed conditions.
- Offer guidance on maintaining vision and eye care, including lifestyle changes and the proper use of corrective lenses or medications.
Referrals and Collaborations:
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists for advanced surgical cases or complex disease management.
- Refer patients to appropriate specialists for conditions that require surgical intervention or further specialized care.
Vision Correction:
- Prescribe and fit glasses, contact lenses, or other visual aids based on the results of vision tests.
- Offer specialized lenses such as multifocals, bifocals, or lenses designed for specific conditions like keratoconus.
Record Keeping and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, documenting examination results, diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to optometric practice and patient care.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited optometry school.
- State Licensure to practice optometry in Florida.
- Strong knowledge of ocular disease, pharmacology, and clinical optometry.
- Proficiency with diagnostic instruments such as OCT, slit lamp, and visual field tests.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in medical optometry, with a focus on ocular disease management.
- Certification in optometric specialties such as low vision rehabilitation or contact lens fitting.
- Excellent patient communication and counseling skills.
- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
