Seeking experienced clinical Optometrist to join premiere Ophthalmology practice in Orangeburg, NY, Middletown, NY, and Clifton, NJ. Experience preferred but recent graduates will be considered. Can consider only NJ or only NY for those licensed only in those states.
Job Description:
Position: Optometrist.
Department: Clinical.
Reports to: Medical Director.
Job Summary: This individual is responsible for demonstrating proficiency and excellence in skills commensurate with the maximum allowances within the scope of licensure; maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of patient care in the practice; and optimally developing an individual optometric practice within the medical/surgical practice.
Education and Experience:
- Licensed optometrist in the state.
- Graduate of accredited optometry program.
- Two years of experience in an ophthalmology setting preferred.

- Ability to meet patient volume requirements.
Responsibilities:
Optometric Examinations:
- Independent patient examinations within the scope of licensure.
- Timely interpretation of diagnostic tests ordered with appropriate patient notification.
- Co-management of the medical/surgical patient according to state law and the by-laws of the practice.
- Emergency patient examinations.
- S/P laser evaluations.
- Participation in rotating call schedule and availability for back up in complex situations.
Contact Lens Department Operations and Management:
- Creates and implements an operating budget for the contact lens department together, with the practice administrator.
- Provides contact lens examinations and fittings.
- Oversees contact lens inventory (i.e., trial lenses, retail stock, supplies, and solutions).
- Provides guidelines regarding contact lens instruction (for insertion and removal) to be performed by appointed clinical staff.
Administrative:
- Advises practice administrator of schedule changes one month in advance of conflict.
- Documents all patient encounters in the medical record with appropriate co-signature in accordance with state law when necessary.
- Bills for services provided in accordance with state law.
Community Outreach and Practice Growth:
- Schedules and performs eye health screenings in the community in cooperation with the practice manager.
- Grows optometric and ophthalmology practice using various marketing tools, including face-to-face appointments with primary care physicians.
Education:
- Schedules learning opportunities with the medical director.
- Provides a quarterly in-house continuing education for ophthalmic medical personnel.
