Position Summary:
The Opioid Outreach Specialist provides assistance in connecting veterans with substance abuse issues with resources to provide education, prevention, treatment and recovery. This individual will conduct outreach efforts at shelters, treatment facilities, known public places, homeless campsites, etc. They will be responsible for planning local events and activities for the benefit of the veterans and resources of the program. The Opioid Outreach Specialist supports the organization by serving as local representative at events and point of contact for outreach and referrals to other Veterans Place programs. This individual must have flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, as well as the ability to attend events and networking occasions that may occur outside of normal business hours.
Position Responsibilities:
The Opioid Outreach Specialist is the person with primary responsibility for outreach to veterans and resources for veterans with a substance abuse history. As needed, the Opioid Outreach Specialist will assist the Opioid Response Specialist with case management need. They will also be responsible for supporting the efforts of connecting veterans with community partners for recovery, housing, employment, and independent living resources. This individual will conduct intakes with veterans during outreach, initiating the case management and referral process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Connect with veterans with substance use disorder and community providers to provide wraparound services and referrals to support case management efforts
- Conduct intake assessments of veterans to enroll and refer to Veterans Place programming.
- Recruit veterans and community partners to participate in Veterans Place events and activities.
- Plan local events and activities for the benefit of veterans specifically in the Opioid Response Grant.
- Develop and facilitate in person and virtual programming content via Teams, Zoom, and other technology-based platforms.
- Assess the needs of veterans and connect them with resources that will assist with their individualized goals.
- Identify community events and activities in the area that will provide opportunities for veteran participation and connection.
- Regularly communicate and network with veterans, serving as a resource and mentor.
- Maintain current and accurate data in the electronic tracking systems.
- Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Bachelors in the human services field (or equivalent in experience).
- One-year experience working in the area of community development, preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to work with the underserved and vulnerable populations.
- 2 years' experience planning events or community activities preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Veteran Status preferred
Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required and a background check will be conducted
