JOB TITLE: Ophthalmic Assistant
LOCATION: Multiple Locations
HOURS: Full-Time 1st Shift
Key Responsibilities:
- The ophthalmic assistant initiates patient evaluation by documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
- Performs visual acuity assessment, refraction, color vision testing, lensometry, pupillary evaluation, ocular motility, tonometry, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services requested by the provider.
- Perform specialized testing such as visual fields, optical coherence tomography, ophthalmic photography, corneal topography, specular microscopy, A scan ultrasound biometry, and IOL calculations.
- Assist physicians with lasers and procedural tray setups.
- Assist physicians with the instillation of eyedrops and ointments as needed.
- Sets up and cleans examination and procedure rooms following infection control standards.
- Keeps up with weekly maintenance and stocking of exam rooms, procedure rooms, and testing rooms.
- Ensures equipment is working properly for patient safety and notifies the appropriate personnel when a problem is identified.
- Responsible for triaging messages and following up with clinical phone encounters in a timely manner.
- Works on prior authorizations and appeals as needed.
- Maintains patient records and all office correspondence.
- Provides training and assistance as needed.
- Follows all policies and procedures. Respects confidentiality and completes annual trainings.
- Ability to multi-task and work as a team player. Expected to float in between patient workups to help decrease patient wait times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful candidates will have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs or graduate from medical assistant program preferred.
- Minimum of one year of Ophthalmic Assistant experience preferred.
- Demonstrates knowledge of ocular terminology and pharmacology, including the identification and proper use of diagnostic medications.
