Overview:
Guideboat Capital (“GCP”) is seeking talented and highly motivated mid-career operators, with deep industry backgrounds, to join our team as we seek high quality industrial service companies to acquire. GCP is an operationally focused investment firm with a successful track record spanning close to a decade. We seek opportunities across a broad range of industries in the lower and middle market, with a focus on founder or non-institutionally owned businesses that are at an inflection point in their growth.
We’re seeking entrepreneurial, mid-career, operators who have a long term track record of success in the industrial services space. As an Operator in Residence, you will engage in a search, acquisition and the operation of a company alongside the team at Guideboat. In addition to a salary during your search, you’ll be given full access to our resources and will work hand-in-hand with the Guideboat team on opportunities that you generate. Upon the successful acquisition of a company, your compensation structure will be pre-agreed and include substantial equity.
Who You Are
- Prior founder, C-level executive, or leader with a proven track record of successful accomplishments and at least 10 years of experience in your industry
- Shows true entrepreneurial grit. An ability to both formulate a plan and roll up sleeves to execute on it
- An operator and “doer” at heart who is highly motivated to find, acquire and run an enterprise
- Deep knowledge of your niche vertical with the industrial services space and a reputation that allows you to connect with peers at customers, suppliers and competitors
- Experience building and managing teams across a broad range of disciplines
- Ability to form an investment thesis, evolve it into strategic initiatives and execute on the plan
What You’ll Do
Alongside the support of our team, you will be responsible for searching, validating and ultimately negotiating a deal to buy a company that you will then run as CEO. Key responsibilities throughout the process will include
- Build an investment thesis around a niche that you have deep knowledge, relationships, and experience
- Conduct primary and secondary research on the industry opportunities and seek out players to acquire
- Source opportunities through a mix of proprietary network, databases and brokers
- Perform diligence on target companies with all available resources including significant primary reviews with employees, customers and vendors
- Develop and execute on the strategic plan that seeks to maximize returns over the investment hold period
- Manage and lead the company post-close and oversee all operational aspects of the company. You will report to the board of which you will be a member
- Prepare for and assist in an ultimate exit of the company
Requirements
- Ready to commit full-time and exclusively to the journey
- Relevant domain expertise and/or industry advantage, understand your domain and are passionate about problem-solving
- Have previous experience co-founding or executive functions at industry-leading companies
- Demonstrated ability to lead and build organizations
- Desire to have a capital partner that will serve as support and a partner along the full journey
