Position: Operator - Customer Service Center
Primary Location: Toledo, OH
Schedule: day shift, M-F
Reports to: Plant Manager - Toledo
Compensation: $33.25/hr, non-exempt
Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location. The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. About this Role and You
Operators at our Customer Service Center in Cleveland, Ohio are responsible for unloading Sulphuric acid and other chemical products received by tank car into the centers storage tanks. They also load tank cars and tank trucks, perform other operating and maintenance assignments as directed while acting in accordance with the centers operating procedures and at all times, complying with safety, environmental laws & regulations, company policies, and standards.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Must be able to work independently, in a manner consistent with center safety requirements, make decisions within normal center operating procedures.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the carriers, with customers, and must be capable to working in an environment that, because of its relatively small size, requires a cooperative and flexible approach to supervision and to co-workers.
Must have the capability of performing a wide variety of mechanical functions such as operation of the trackmobile, the pick up truck, snow clearing equipment, yard maintenance equipment, tank car switching and placement, simple maintenance equipment, and a general understanding of center equipment.
Must be knowledgeable of proper procedures for handling the hazardous materials at the center, of center safety and environmental requirements, and maintain a high standard of housekeeping.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision. Must be physically capable of spending long hours outdoors and occasionally work in protected clothing and equipment. Ability to climb stairs and ladders (including vertical).
Responsibilities
Unlock center facilities and equipment in the morning and lock up before leaving the center.
Unload tank cars of sulphuric acid and other Chemtrade products in accordance with established operating procedures.
Load tank cars and tank trucks with those products in accordance with established operating procedures.
As shipper of tank cars, either full or empty ensure that these cars are in compliance with the regulations before presenting to the railway. The required inspection procedures are detailed in the Tank Car Inspection Manual and complete Pre Trip/Loading Inspection Forms.
Operate the trackmobile to accommodate tank car loading/unloading and for movement of cars within the center.
Provide truck loading capability for the full operating hours of the center as required.
Operate the center scale/s to determine weights of shipments and complete the Bill of Lading for presentation to the carrier as required.
Operate computer for SAP, maintenance, email and other office type systems.
Carry out inventory checks of products at the center.
Be familiar with and carry out effluent control procedures at the center and be prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency.
Understand the quality control aspects of the product handed and be able to perform quality control testing as detailed in the Quality Assurance Manual, Laboratory Procedures.
Be prepared to respond positively to reasonable demands for necessary overtime assignments.
Carry out other operating assignments as directed by supervision.
