Job purpose
The Batch Plant Operator performs tasks involving physical labor on batch plant machinery and other machinery as needed. The position may be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools. The position may assist other workers as required.
Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for the operation of concrete batching process to ensure the correct amount and sizes of aggregates and proportions of cement, additives, and water required for concrete are added
- Participates in making sure the quality and quantity of raw materials meets established standards
- Follows procedures set in place to correct any deficiencies in plant operation
- Interacts with sales team and customer service to ensure product meets specifications
- Ensures assigned established performance indicators are met
- Works toward improvement of the assigned plant and surrounding area
- Follows established procedures to ensure that the plant for which he/she is responsible is in compliance with state, federal, and local regulations and requirements
- Participates in on-going minor maintenance and visual evaluations of plant and equipment
- Confers with plant supervisor, other supervisory personnel to resolve problems, provide immediate feedback, and may recommend solutions to improve performance
- Logistics of raw materials including inventory and ordering
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
- Conduct preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as required.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner
- Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Project Manager, Safety Director, or HR Manager.

Other Functions
- Safety support and planning work with Health and Safety Personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working conditions
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
Physical requirements

- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key duties.
- Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances; frequently climb on/off equipment; climb ladders frequently
- Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding and pulling
- Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand and sit for extended time; and use hand tools
- Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly
