We are currently accepting applications for the role of Operations Manager at our Recycling facility in San Jose, California.
About the Job:
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be accountable for timely production and cost control; focusing on maintaining consistency and routine to ensure accurate and efficient operations. Some degree of creativity is necessary to resolve conflicts and implement improvements. Competency in motivating others and good judgement are critical competencies as a supervisor for a number of union and non-union employees. The Operations Manager’s key areas of performance will include Plant Production and Quality, Production Costs, Environmental, Safety and Human Resource Management.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Schedule production and set shipment priorities with appropriate levels of staffing to ensure schedules are met and inventory is controlled;
- Oversee personnel performance, ensuring sampling integrity is maintained;
- Coordinate routine plant and office maintenance;
- Assures completion of test work for Quality Assurance Program;
- Assist in the development, review and implementation of plant projects;
- Controls operating costs while maintaining a safe and efficient plant;
- Oversee employee safety and ensure adherence to policies and regulations;
- Follow-up with the employees and clinic to implement modified work recommendations;
- Works with Environmental Health & Safety to ensure regulation compliance and alternate Emergency Response Coordinator;
- Conduct monthly safety meetings and inspections, completing follow-up corrective actions where required and is the alternate Emergency Response Coordinator;
- Work closely with EHS to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits and policy requirements;
- Responsible for the motivation, training, supervision and performance management of all warehouse, maintenance and production personnel;
- Enforces policy rules and procedures and disciplines union personnel when infractions occur;
- Maintain strong working relationships with union shop steward and representatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- 5 – 7 years’ of Production or Operations experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisor or management level role;
- Candidates with experience in the recycling industry are strongly preferred;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Team-oriented with proven conflict-management capabilities;
- Bilingual, English and Spanish a definite plus.
