Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Operations Manager - Clinical Engineering.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for the overall supervision of all biomedical technicians, manages preventive maintenance and repairs activities of the department and is responsible for the maintenance of the workshops of the department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervises the repair and maintenance activities performed by clinical engineering staff. Supervises and coaches the clinical engineering staff on an ongoing basis. Inspects completed work; assures that work is completed properly.
- Verifies reported equipment problems and makes determination as how best to have the problem resolved, including calling in of outside service providers. Ongoing checking of the machines functionalities. Reports problems, calls for outside service providers and follow up to ensure functionality.
- Participates in and/or assists with development of departmental and hospital based continuous quality improvement initiatives. Analyzes and implements process flow improvements. Maintains and improves process efficiency and quality of service.
- Acts as a technical resource to his/her staff for repair and maintenance activities on selected equipment and related systems. The Operations Manager is accountable for all clinical equipment maintenance. This includes not only directing the efforts of Biomedical Technicians, but also ensuring that all significant regulatory and accreditation issues related to equipment maintenance are observed. Supervises and participates in building and facilities maintenance and repair. Performs a variety of field maintenance tasks. Oversees preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Frequent communications with Clinical department personnel served as well as other Clinical Engineering management.
- Accomplishes these accountabilities in a manner such that Clinical Excellence is supported with minimal investment of hospital funds. Ensures the achievement of goals with minimal investment of hospital funds which require identifying of resources needed.
- Develops daily, weekly and monthly work schedules for all staff technicians and makes adjustments as needed in order to accommodate changing work loads. Evaluates staff productivity, efficiency and other specific work quality performance indices. Performs staff performance evaluations and makes recommendations to the Director regarding merit increases and/or promotions. Manages the day-to-day activities to assure that safety and best practices are maximized.
- Works with the Sr. Clinical Engineer to ensure that all resources are available to staff members as needed to allow them to perform maintenance and repair of medical equipment and systems as assigned. Verifies reported equipment problems with end users and makes determination as to who is best capable of resolving the problem, assigning the work to an in-house service technician, a CE equipment specialist, or an outside equipment service vendor. Ensures the availability of resources necessary for the maintenance and repair of medical equipment and systems in the Clinical engineering department. Verifies the reported equipment problems by checking the equipment with end users. Assigns the right person to resolve the problem based on knowledge of the problem and level of input needed to resolve it.
- Audits work completed by in-house staff and takes corrective actions where necessary. Attends routine and special meetings as assigned, to include the Safety Committee and New Equipment Acquisition Committee if applicable. Ongoing audit for the work completed by in-house staff and takes correctives actions where necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical or Electrical Engineering
- 7 years progressive experience in a hospital setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a CBET from International Certification Commission Preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.95 - $99,750.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
