About the Job
The Center for Healthy Aging in Women at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging is seeking a nimble and highly motivated individual to serve as Operations Lead for a novel initiative to transform the future of women’s health. This position is currently funded for 1 year with extension dependent on the availability of additional funding.
MISSION AND VISION
The Buck Center for Healthy Aging in Women, with ProductiveHealth.org as its global arm, is spearheading a paradigm shift in women's health research. While women outlive men by a few years on average, they also experience a disproportionately longer period of poor health. We're focusing on a critical yet overlooked aspect of female physiology: ovarian function. Ovaries are the architects of health and the pacemakers for aging in female bodies. They age faster than other organs, leading to wide-ranging health implications. The consequences extend far beyond fertility and menopause, impacting women’s health through their entire adult lives. We want to understand what drives ovarian aging and develop interventions to slow or reverse it. Through funding, collaboration, and innovation, we are accelerating the pace of discovery and informing the path to intervention. We are building a sustainable, impactful, and diverse research ecosystem to support the field by funding innovative, bold ideas and assembling an intellectual network of scientists in academia and biotech, thought leaders, and ambassadors from all over the world to promote a collaborative dialogue about women, aging and health. Our mission is to extend ovarian health to improve female healthspan, addressing a fundamental inequality in medical research and healthcare.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Center's Co-Director, Assistant Professor Jennifer Garrison, the Operations Lead will provide comprehensive strategic, operational, and analytical support to the Center for Healthy Aging in Women at the Buck Institute, external grantees and stakeholders, and affiliated faculty to carry out the specific aims and milestones for the Center. Major responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations including executing grant-making and coordinating smooth communication between the Center, other departments at the Buck Institute, and partner organizations; assisting in recruiting new researchers and institutions to join the Center; and liaising with the Philanthropy Office to help follow-up with prospective funders (foundations, agencies, corporate sponsors, etc.). A high degree of flexibility and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves in a dynamic, small-team environment are essential. - Someone with experience in a Chief of Staff or team role at a biotech or non-profit.
- Someone with a technical background and startup experience in program management, product management, or operations who is interested in women’s health.
- An entrepreneurial scientist who wants to move into a non-profit/operations role.
- This is not an EA role and there will not be calendar management or PA work
- This is not a remote position
- Execute policies and operational procedures to successfully achieve strategic pillars for the Center/PH.
- Work closely with Administration to ensure smooth functioning of the Center.
- Design and automate workflows to increase efficiency of Center operations.
- Assist Dr. Garrison with program budget and allocation.
- Work with Dr. Garrison to develop and execute an evaluation feedback framework to measure outcomes and make improvements on program design as needed.
- Proofread/format/submit joint Center grant applications, publications, and correspondence on time.
- Assist with preparation of slides/graphics files for presentations and materials to showcase Center.
- Maintain PH consortium network database.
- Maintain website and social media accounts and work with Buck Communications Team to publicize, and amplify news, updates, and events, including Center-related highlights, for example, Faculty and grantee accolades, manuscripts, grants etc.
- Assist with organizing and executing annual Center faculty retreat and bi-annual consortium-member retreat.
- Organize and execute annual stakeholder conference on Reproductive Aging.
- Drive the effort to continue building and maintaining the tissue biobank and reproductive tissue database.
- Help build, update, and maintain the KnowledgeHub.
- Maintain internal grant portal, files, including contact management, evaluations, and metrics reporting.
- Solicit and organize grant proposals to establish and maintain a portfolio of grantees receiving high-level, multi-year support.
- Organize grant review process following ProductiveHealth’s guidelines to ensure transparent, fair, and unbiased outcomes.
- Represent the Center and the Buck Institute at conferences and gatherings and position us as the leaders in relevant associations and networks.
- Liaise with local ecosystem partners to organize educational initiatives.
- Liaise with the Buck Philanthropy Office to track potential donors and assist with follow-up as needed.
- Degree or relevant training in any area of Biology, Chemistry, or related field, with a record that demonstrates suitable base knowledge for the position
- 5 years’ experience within research, non-profit, or business setting
- In-depth knowledge of aging biology, women’s health, and/or reproductive biology, including both theory and practice desirable, or an earnest willingness to learn the field
- Highly competent with writing and editing public-facing copy and persuasive communication as demonstrated by citable examples as well as previous experience with press releases, web page content, marketing communication materials, and/or articles for corporate newsletters
- Proven experience in strategy, analysis, and program management
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Demonstrated supervisory, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills to interface and coordinate professionally with diverse internal and external contacts
- Grants Administration experience highly desirable
- Fluency in Office365 and GoogleDrive, Slack, WordPress, MailChimp, Zapier, Airtable highly desirable
- $80,000 - $95,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience and skill set.
