Position Summary
The Operations Engineer provides technical support to the manufacturing operations to assure that these operations meet planned objectives related to safety, quality, quantity, and cost. Operations Engineers are primarily responsible for providing process design for the development of small to medium scope process improvements and capital projects, perform process optimization studies and plant trials, and perform Process Hazard Analysis review to meet Process Safety Requirements. As part of our team, you will work cross-functionally within Supply Chain, Operations, Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality in projects. Ability to work multiple functions and influence others is key to the role. This position is classified as a Safety Critical Role and reports to the Engineering Operations Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technical support for day-to-day operations
- Enhance processes across all departments
- Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
- Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, product design, materials and parts.
- Work with Operations, Engineering, and Finance to determine product costing on designated SKU’s.
- Optimize the casting manufacturing process to effectively reduce the First Pass Scrap in all work centers.
- Work with Operations and Engineering to optimize COGS in Casting and Finishing Operations.
- Analyze and document the current manufacturing cycle times and implement process improvement projects to reduce those cycle times to drive lower COG’s.
- Analyze Operations data from work orders and identify areas for improvement in the manufacturing process.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team to determine the drivers for increases in COG’s and monitor / report out daily to make sure the process stays in control.
- Work with Production Control to optimize labor utilization to achieve daily schedule adherence.
- Assist with 5S Team in continuous improvement throughout the company
- Manage all aspects of Standard Operating Conditions Program
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial engineering related preferred.
Experience:
- 3-4 years Operations Engineering or related experience. Experience in a 24/7 continuous environment preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in cost savings initiative in manufacturing.
- Lean and six sigma manufacturing experience
- Data analysis and using statistical tools
- Web handling experience preferred.
- Must have a strong background in Microsoft Office tools, like Word. Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication skills to build a rapport with the other functional teams, like Operations, Maintenance / Engineering, Quality, Sales, etc.
- Excellent troubleshooting ability. Must have working knowledge in manufacturing and molding / casting.
Other:
- Be flexible in work hours. Will be on-call for troubleshooting and support for 24/7 manufacturing operation
- Flex work schedule as required to cover off shift and weekend production
- Able to conduct research, prepare comprehensive reports and present complex statistical information in a clear and succinct fashion.
- Can evaluate multiple variables to arrive at the optimum solution.
- Competency in objective setting and providing appropriate situational leadership to execute these strategies.
- Ability to take on increased responsibility, special initiatives, and leadership role.
