Operations Director for a Leader in the Packaging Industry - Treehouse Partners

About the Job
Our client is a family-owned and operated business in the packaging industry. They have been in operation for over 100 years, building a business based on strong relationships, quality craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to customer satisfaction. They are seeking a Director of Operations to ensure the smooth functioning of the company’s operational processes, improve efficiencies, and guide the development of key operational strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing operations, mechanical aptitude, expertise in tooling and inventory management, and a strong leadership track record. Candidates at the VP-level will also be considered.
This is an in-person role involving some travel. Candidates will be considered in California, Illinois, Georgia, and Indiana.
Responsibilities:
- Play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of the company, with a specific focus on maintaining operational continuity, managing tooling inventory, and driving improvements across the operations team
- Lead and mentor the operations team, including Plant Managers, Corporate Quality Manager, and Tooling Managers
- Maintain accurate tracking of molds, machines, and components, ensuring that molds are assigned correctly to the appropriate machines and that tooling-related processes are efficient and cost-effective
- Provide guidance and oversight on machinery operations, including the management of machine shops and tooling systems
- Work closely with CFO to manage financial accounting at the plant level, offering input and output tracking for production materials and finished goods and identifying discrepancies to ensure alignment between financial accounting and plant operations
- Monitor and support plant operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and adherence to production schedules; evaluating and improving production workflows (particularly with respect to space constraints and inventory management)
- Ensure standardized processes are followed across all plants, despite differences in plant management styles
- Leverage the Sage ERP system to track operations, inventory, and production data
Qualifications:
- 7-10+ years of experience in operations management, with at least 5 in a manufacturing environment (experience working for a family-owned business is a nice plus)
- Strong experience in manufacturing operations, tooling management, and inventory control – familiarity with packaging machinery, injection molding, and related technologies is preferred
- Proven ability to lead and develop cross-functional teams, including plant managers, quality managers, and technical specialists
- Strong understanding of machinery, tooling systems, and the technical aspects of manufacturing
- Exposure to financial reporting, cost management, and the ability to identify and address discrepancies in accounting and production
- Proficient in using ERP systems (Sage a big plus) and data analytics to drive operational improvements and make data-driven decisions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and reduce waste
Compensation: Targeting a base salary of $140-180k base salary + bonus; DOE
