We are looking for an experienced Operations Controller to join our aerospace manufacturing company, which generates $200M in annual revenue. As a key member of the finance team, the Operations Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial operations within our manufacturing facility. This includes managing cost accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and operational performance analysis. The Operations Controller will work closely with the senior leadership team to optimize operational efficiencies, ensure financial controls, and drive profitability in a fast-paced, high-precision aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis:
Lead cost accounting activities, including cost of goods sold (COGS), direct materials, labor costs, and overhead allocations.
Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs to ensure alignment with budgeted figures, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
Develop and maintain standard costing models for aerospace products, ensuring accurate costing and inventory management.
Perform variance analysis and provide insights to operations management to optimize cost structures.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:
Drive the annual budgeting process for the operations department, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align financial goals with strategic objectives.
Lead monthly and quarterly forecasting processes, ensuring that operations’ financial performance is accurately reflected and updated based on current market conditions.
Monitor operational performance against budget and forecast, providing timely reporting and recommendations to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
Operational Performance Monitoring:
Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and financial performance.
Provide real-time financial insights into the operational aspects of production, including capacity utilization, yield management, and resource allocation.
Collaborate with plant leadership to interpret financial data and support decision-making aimed at improving operational processes and profitability.
Cost Control & Process Improvement:
Identify cost-saving opportunities within the manufacturing process, focusing on reducing waste, improving efficiency, and optimizing resource utilization.
Work closely with engineering, supply chain, and production teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance cost controls and operational effectiveness.
Oversee inventory management, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods, ensuring that inventory levels are optimized without sacrificing production needs.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Establish and enforce internal financial controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial transactions within operations.
Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations (e.g., FAR, CAS) and financial reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS).
Prepare for and support external and internal audits, providing required documentation and resolving any identified issues.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support:
Serve as a financial business partner to operations management, providing actionable insights to improve efficiency and profitability across the production floor.
Assist with capital expenditure (CapEx) planning, ensuring that investments in new equipment and facilities align with the company’s financial objectives and ROI targets.
Provide financial support for strategic decisions, such as new product introductions, manufacturing process changes, and production scheduling.
Reporting & Strategic Planning:
Prepare regular financial reports for the executive team, offering clear insights into operational performance, cost trends, and the financial health of the manufacturing operation.
Analyze operational trends and recommend strategies to improve productivity, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A CPA, CMA, or MBA is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial control and analysis, ideally within a manufacturing or aerospace environment.
Experience in cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting within a manufacturing setting.
Understanding of aerospace industry standards, including FAR, CAS, and compliance with federal regulations, is preferred.
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and advanced proficiency in Excel.
Skills:
Strong analytical skills with a focus on operational efficiency, cost management, and profitability.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, supply chain, and senior management to drive financial success.
