Ashland has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager for Continuous Processes to join our Ashland Inc., ISP Technologies, Inc. business at our Texas City, Texas plant. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the manufacturing function. This position will report to the site plant manager.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Planning, directing, and coordinating the manufacturing of products in accordance with company goals and objectives.
- Maintaining employee safety and morale by creating a safe working environment.
- Establishing and controlling conditions of production to satisfy customer and quality specifications.
- Optimizing unit performance, including yields, throughput, and quality.
- Directing Process Engineers in operating strategies and process improvement efforts and quality improvements.
- Monitoring the implementation of small capital projects aimed at process improvements, safety enhancements, and cost reduction efforts.
- Leading the new product development process by interacting with corporate R&D, pilot plant, and quality resources.
- Working closely with planning organization, maintenance department, and engineering to efficiently produce high quality products, ensure equipment is properly maintained, and projects installed on time.
- Providing input to capital budget preparation.
- Maintaining proper employment levels through selecting, interviewing, and training of personnel.
- Ensuring operating personnel perform at a high level of excellence, do so safely, and promote good union relationships. Provide appropriate coaching and counseling as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the entire plant.
- Assesses plant-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives, then identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for employees focusing on both site and company requirements.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of chemical plant manufacturing experience.
- Well versed in chemical process manufacturing, Process Safety Management, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), environmental compliance standards, Quality Process Management, engineering and project standards, Management of Change, budget preparation and cost control, organizational effectiveness, and people management.
- Ability to lead and manage others effectively, be an effective communicator and can interface well with employees at all levels, especially with members of site’s Leadership Team as well as corporate management.
- Proven strong business acumen and ability to manage multiple priorities and constantly changing business priorities.
- Always demonstrate responsible and ethical behavior.
- Drive the company to a greater value through understanding the business, making complex decisions, and creating the new and different.
- Able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager.
- Capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
- Be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area, including hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being performed.
- Ability to walk extensively, climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, lift 25 lbs., or reach depending on work activity required. Work is performed in an office/plant environment with frequent trips to the operating areas to formulate plans, inspect equipment or processes and collect data.
- Training required to perform the job properly may require this position to travel within Texas and around the United States of America.
- A valid driver’s license to operate plant vehicles.
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
- Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Six Sigma certification.
- Prior experience in a union facility.
- Prior experience in training and development administration.
