Overview
Halifax Health is seeking an Operating Room/Anesthesia Technician for the Operating Room/Anesthesia Department.
Summary
The Anesthesia Technician supports the Anesthesiologist and Nurse Anesthetists by the preparation and set up of appropriate equipment and supplies for each case. This includes anesthesia circuit setup, connecting monitoring lines, preparing infusion sets applying to the patient, and operating all common physiological monitors, such as (Datex, pulse oximeter, BIS, CO2 monitor, BP monitor, blood warmers, and rapid fluid infusers).
The Anesthesia Tech has and applies knowledge of surgical equipment placement, medical terminology, and sequence of operation procedures to assist as needed. The Tech orders supplies, drugs and equipment, unpacks and rotates stock in all workrooms and in all operating rooms. Identifies malfunctioning equipment, troubleshoot equipment problems, and refer more serious equipment problems to appropriate technical repair personnel when there are no established guidelines. Cleans and decontaminates equipment. This includes disassembly of equipment and sterilization in accordance with the Center for Disease Control.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- Certified AT/EMT preferred
- Current BLS required
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Stocks and monitors anesthesia equipment, drugs, instruments, supplies and disposables in all areas that anesthesia goes (i.e. HMC, HPC GI LAB, OH, CATH LAB, OB, ROC, and RADIOLOGY).
- Cleans anesthesia equipment. Cleans anesthesia machines, wipes down ancillary equipment.
- Orders, receives and tracks inventories.
- Assists with transports as needed.
- Sets up equipment for Anesthesia procedures.
- Assists Anesthesiologist/CRNA with monitoring, induction and intubations as needed.
- Computer skills in Word, Excel and Meditech.
- Other duties may be assigned as appropriate and necessary.
