Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as an Operating Engineer in the Facilities / Engnrng &Trades Department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Operating Engineer performs daily building maintenance duties including, but not limited to inspection, operation, repair and maintenance of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam and hot water systems and equipment; meets productivity standards; and performs other duties inherent in the job. Knows, follows and actively supports the philosophy, mission and Vision of Ingalls Hospital. The Operating Engineer adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care. Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate parties as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan. The position may work rotating weekends and rotating holidays.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of a recognized apprentice program, 6 to 12 months of post high school education in refrigeration, air conditioning & heating, or equivalent progressive experience in building repair & maintenance is required.
- Working knowledge of high-pressure boilers is required and can be obtained through formal training or one year of suitable experience. A current City of Chicago or State of Illinois stationary engineer license is necessary to operator high pressure vessels.
- Must be able to operate high pressure boilers, operate the Building Automation Center and maintain the pneumatic and HVAC/R systems of the hospital.
- The physical demand level of strenuous activity includes a high degree of physical effort consisting of lifting in excess of 80 pounds; pulling and pushing up to, and in excess of 150 pounds of force; with a high range of climbing, bending and stooping in order to complete repair/job. Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds. Must be able and willing to work in inclement weather. Inability to perform the physical requirements of this position would pose a significant, if not direct, threat to the operations of the department.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
