Roles and responsibilities can often be expanded to accommodate changing patient or organizational needs and conditions as well as to tap into skills and talents of employees. Accordingly, employees may be asked to perform duties that are outside the specific functions that are listed. Under supervision of the Billing Supervisor of Hospital Services, is responsible for all aspects scanning and entering correspondence received in the Hospital Business Office.

Act as an onsite resource for remote staff as well as perform collector duties as needed. Must contain high quality of customer service, when calling health plans and patients. Work cooperatively within specified team functions to ensure this standard is met. Maintain optimum cash flow for Bassett Healthcare Network.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours 7:30am – 4:00pm EST or 8:00am - 4:30pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. Our office is located at 4773 State HWY 28 Cooperstown, NY 13326

We offer weeks of paid training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

1) Operational: Ensures the unit meets timely, accurate billing and cash collections.

• Responsible for Scanning in all Business Office correspondence and completing corresponding correspondence entry in Epic.

• Responsible for Mailing letter printed by remote staff.

• Responsible for working Credit Balance WQs

• Provide follow-up on accounts within the time limits set by the Carrier to ensure timely and appropriate reimbursement as monitored by Management utilizing A/R reports.

• Contact patients, employers, or insurance companies to obtain required data for claims submission and overpayments.  Answer all inquiries regarding accounts, patient inquiries within 48 hours of receipt, monitored by feedback from Customer Service and/or patients.

• Provide back up support in the absence/vacancy of team members and/or other billing personnel 100% of the time as observed by Management.

• Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings as noted by Management.

2)  Relationships: Maintains a strong working relationship with all Bassett staff and customers.

• Always Treat Customers (other employees, guests, patients, and physicians) with courtesy and respect as observed by Management and feedback from other staff members or patients.

• Presents a positive image of Bassett Healthcare 100% of the time through professional appearance and behavior as observed by Management.

• Responds appropriately to Customer Service requests within 48 hours of receipt as monitored by feedback from our Customer Service unit.

• Works cooperatively within our own unit/department and with other units/departments as observed by Management and feedback from staff.

3)  Financial Responsibilities: Responsible for maintaining optimum cash flow.

• Work dedicated and work timely as monitored by Management.

• Reviews payment vouchers to ensure proper reimbursement is being received in accordance with our contracts as observed by Management.

• Use supplies and equipment sensibly, remaining cost conscience as monitored by management observation and responsibility reports.

4)  Information: Is conscientious about confidentiality and sharing information.

• Consistently ensures information known about the Customer is kept private and confidential as observed by Management and feedback from other staff and/or patients.

• Complies with all privacy (HIPAA) regulations and adheres to Bassett’s confidentiality policies.  Success is monitored by Management through feedback from co-workers and/or patients.

• Verifies insurance coverage, corrects, and updates the patient records within 48 hours of receipt and shares the information with our Physician Billing Staff as observed by Management and feedback from co-workers.

5) Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed

• Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma / GED

• 1+ years of experience in Medical Billing

• 1+ years of customer service experience analyzing and solving customer problems; OR 1+ years of experience in an office setting environment using the telephone and computer as the primary instruments to perform job duties
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel & Outlook) - ability to create, edit, save, and send documents, spreadsheet, and correspondence

• Ability to work full-time, Monday - Friday between 7:30am – 4:00pm EST or 8:00am – 4:30pm including the flexibility to work occasional overtime given the business need

  
  

• Reside within 30 miles of Cooperstown, NY
• Must be 18 years of age OR older 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Healthcare/Medical/Pharmacy terminology

Soft Skills:

• Familiar with office/billing operations

• Good data entry/typing, analytical, organizational and telephone skills

• Effective communication skills maintaining high quality customer service

• Must be flexible to changing work environment and able to process high volume of claims/paperwork

Physical and Work Environment:

• Work requires prolonged periods of concentration working at a computer station reviewing accounts and financial reports, sitting for prolonged periods of time

• Must be able to assist in the lifting of storage boxes, up to 40 lbs

New York Residents Only: The hourly range for New York residents is $16.00 - $31.44 per hour.
