NECS is currently seeking a Per-Diem Oncology Nurse Care Manager to join our fast-paced outpatient oncology clinic in Lewiston, ME. Internally known as a Nurse Navigator, the Per-Diem Nurse Care Manager will collaborate directly with physician led teams, using oncology/hematology clinic knowledge to offer individualized care to patients, families, and caregivers to help them navigate the health care continuum. They provide nursing assessment and the triage of patient care needs both over the phone and in person. Offering advice and counsel to patients as well as advising providers of patient needs and recommended interventions. They will collaborate with physicians, APPs, RN peers, Patient Care Coordinators, and other clinical and non-clinical personnel within and outside the practice.
NECS uses per-diem staff to provide continuous service to our patients. Each month Per-Diem staff are offered open slots in the schedule and may also be called upon to fill in for sick staff members, cover for vacations or leave. Per-Diem employees do not have a set schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with patient scheduling and coordination of care.
- Assist physicians, conduct patient assessments.
- Receive patient telephone calls and intervene appropriately for that patient’s specific needs promptly. Alert physician as needed to patient needs that require physician intervention.
- Follow up with patients as needed by telephone, to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
- Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
- Ensures follow-up appointments and tests/procedures are scheduled for patients.
- Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment, and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
- Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in-services and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations, and community-sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
- Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice and provides recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors.
- Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
- Demonstrates respect for the life, dignity, and rights of all persons.
Monday-Friday workweek, no nights. The position will average less than 20 hours per week.
Travel: Rare though opportunity could exist to provide care at other NECS clinics if interested.

Required Experience:
- Licensed Nurse within the State of Maine required.
- Hematology/Oncology experience strongly preferred.
- ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification required within 3 (three) months of hire.
- Two years plus of nursing professional experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
