Join our Head Start team! The Head Start Bus Driver transports children for the program. The Bus Driver works as part of the site team to provide support in all aspects of the Head Start program.
This is an On-call position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Educationand/orExperience
High school diploma or GED.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Driver qualifications are required for this position. Valid driver license, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and a satisfactory drive record for the previous three years are required
- Current, valid Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit with:
- School Bus driver license endorsement ('S' Endorsement).
- Passenger driver license endorsement ('P' Endorsement).
- Successfully pass the DMV Air Brakes Knowledge test.
- Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
- Oregon School Bus Driver's Certificate or ability to obtain.
- Current Medical Examiner's Certificate Card or ability to obtain.
- CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Candidate must pass pre-employment drug screen.
- Candidate is required to participate in ODOT random drug screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience working with young children.
- Ability to engage problem-solving techniques in order serve clients with maximum efficiency.
- Basic computing skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Outlook, Excel), mapping, and video software.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
- Transports passengers on program-related activities by the most direct route, safely, and efficiently.
- Develop and maintain the quickest and safest bus route for assigned Head Start sites.
- Keeps assigned vehicle clean and equipped for emergencies. Reports any malfunctions.
- Monitors own licensing and training requirements and ensures that current and legal bus driving requirements are maintained at all times. This includes at least 8-hours per year for special training.
- Keeps accurate and complete records within allotted time lines to include class rosters, routes, mileage (as assigned), absentee child tracking and others as assigned.
- Supports classroom team by providing break coverage, cleaning, or other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisory duties in this position.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
- Required to frequently be able to reach and grip steering wheel; regularly required to climb or balance; occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to visually inspect bus.
- Regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and depth perception. Ability to be alert at all times while performing job.
- Ability to remain calm and quickly evacuate children from the school bus in an emergency.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Driving and vehicle inspections in all weather conditions.
- Securing and transporting young children with varying abilities.
- Moderate to frequent loud noises.
- Multiple distractions from traffic, parents, bus riders and the public.
