Mission and Culture
The DNR mission is to “develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's natural resources consistent with the public interest.” The DMLW's mission is to “provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.”
One of DNR's key functions is authorizing the use of state lands if it is consistent with the public interest. The Office Assistant 3 supports the Southcentral Regional Land Office by serving as the main public-facing representative for the office. This position will also provide highly valued support by ensuring that the general office clerical tasks are completed.
Core Responsibilities
This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with diverse groups of people by being the first to greet visitors to the office. The office assistant will be responsible for the clerical support of the office, which includes processing mail, maintaining office supplies, and directing phone calls. This position will also be trained to assist adjudicator staff in receiving, reviewing, and initiating various land use authorizations.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
This position is in the Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage, with an individual working space on the 9th floor. The core hours are from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday – Friday and currently require a 7.5-hour daily work schedule, with an option for an alternate work-week schedule. The office has a positive atmosphere geared towards collaboration and teamwork. The office has a beautiful view of the Chugach Mountain Range and offers free parking. The Atwood building is near coffee shops, restaurants, shopping, the park strip, and the Coastal Trail system.

- Experience establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with diverse groups of people, including those whose interests are sometimes adversarial.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that clearly and concisely convey the message to a broad spectrum of audiences.
- Working knowledge of computer-based workstations and relevant business software.
- Ability to organize, set priorities, plan, and direct workflow and procedures for recordkeeping, filing, and other clerical office systems.
- Experience comprehending and interpreting written material and applying rules and instructions.
