Overall Responsibility:
Strategically manages and directs Surgical Services within the hospital.This individual is responsible for the selection of the nursing and allied health professionals assigned to these areas.The staffing, orientation, clinical education, competency evaluation, policies and procedures related to the smooth running of the areas would be primary responsibilities.In addition, this individual would be responsible for interacting with the physicians to ascertain their needs and desires in the operation of these areas.Assists in formulating the operating and capital budgets and ensures efficient and cost-effective use of human and material resources in delivering quality surgical services.

Key tasks and responsibilities:
1.Reviews, revises, and approves the next day’s surgeryschedule.Orders special tissue as needed.Ensures availability of needed specialtyitems/equipment.
2.Works with scheduling clerk to develop next day schedule, checking for accuracy of time schedule, room assignment, and conflict with staff or equipment.
3.Coordinates the set-up of surgery suites for cases, turnover, and trouble-shooting problems as they arise.
4.Ensures physicians request for equipment and supplies are ordered and received.Ensures replacement or repairs of broken equipment.
5.Acts as liaison between physicians and the staff of OR.
6.Coordinates function of OR including supervision of personnel, evaluations, and orientation for new personnel or present personnel to new techniques.
7.Coordinates and manages all aspects of department operations for surgical services.
8.Fosters growth and development of management and leadership skills in surgical services managers and team members.
9.Coordinates a clean, organized and safe OR environment.
10.Maintains effective communication and coordination of activities between surgical services team members.
11.Ensures departmental compliance with regulatory requirements.
12.Prepares and monitors and adheres to annual hospital and operational budgets.
13.Accurately identifies and expeditiously resolves issues affecting the delivery of surgical services.
14.Develops standards of care and performance for surgical services and implements a mechanism for the ongoing evaluation and improvement staff performance.
15.Actively promotes a positive image of hospital and surgical services with the public and professional community.
16.Communicates clearly, openly, and honestly in verbal and written formats.
17.Maintains expertise with computer-based programs, and utilizes reports to improve surgical services performance and ensures full utilization of system by staff.
18.Assesses own performance using insight and constructive feedback to set goals to enrich knowledge and skills required to perform role.
19.Maintains a positive work environment for staff and physicians and promotes team efforts.
20.Ensures adequate staffing in order to achieve department's function and purpose. Completes and maintains departmental staffing plan and reports negative variance to supervisor.
21.Adheres to established departmental operation and salary budgets, and provides explanations of budget variances.
22.Ensures that performance evaluations are current and are reviewed by employees during an annual performance improvement interview. Completes initial departmental orientation and competency review for newly hired employees. Ensures that all licensure/credentials certificates for applicable personnel are valid and up to date. Updates and maintains job descriptions for each job classification in accordance with hospital policy and procedures.
23.Analyzes nursing care provided in the department related to the established standards of care.
24.Assigns patient care responsibilities based on patient needs and abilities of available staff.Utilizes PRN staff for supplemental staffing and minimization of overtime.
25.Ensures monitoring of the Environment of Care is performed on a daily basis as well as daily/monthly Waived Testing checks.
26.Knowledgeable of proper handling of narcotics, sign-out and return, according to the hospital policies and DEA guidelines.
27.Follows up/investigates all variances in narcotic administration/counting.
28.Demonstrates continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.
29.Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.
30.Encourages staff and self to participate in monthly Performance Improvement data collection.
31.Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care.
32.Documents all patient information according to established standards of care, policies and procedures.
33.Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a manner to ensure a positive and professional environment.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Licensure and Certification:
1.BCLS trained, ACLS training preferred.If not current, certification within 90 days of hire.
2.Licensed as an RN in the state of Oklahoma.
Experience required:
1.Five to seven (5 – 7) years of management experience
