Job Summary and Duties:
- Underthe generaldirection of the Director, the courtinterpreterreportsdirectly to the Supervisor of InterpreterServices.The courtinterpreterinterpretsproceedings,hearings,interviewsandother court-relatedcommunicative eventsheldbyjudgesandemployees of relatedcourtservicesagencies.
- Sight interpretsspecifiedforeignlanguage or Englishdocumentsasrequiredduring a proceeding,hearing,interview or other court-relatedcommunicativeevent.
- TranslatesfromEnglishinto a specifiedforeignlanguage,officialforms,letters,documents, public signs,notices,posters,form letters, job applications,correspondenceandothercourt-relateddocuments.
- Maintainsaccurateandcontemporaneousrecords of interpretingandtranslatingactivities,includingongoing case next date anddispositioninformation.
- Performssuchotherdutiesas may be assigned.

Job Requirements:
- Ability to read,write,speak,understandandcommunicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
- Knowledge of Englishandappropriate foreignlanguagephonology,vocabulary,grammar anddialectology.
- Knowledge of Englishandspecifiedforeignlanguage legalterminology.
- Knowledge of theory, method, techniques,ethicsandstandards of interpretingandtranslating.
- Knowledge of the methods,techniquesandproceduresused in interpreting in the simultaneousandconsecutivemodes.
- Familiaritywiththe courtsystemandrelatedagencies.
- Ability to interpret in consecutiveandsimultaneousmodesforproceedings,hearings,interviewsandother court-relatedcommunicative events.
- Ability to translateforms,lettersandother court-relateddocumentsfromEnglish to specifiedforeignlanguage andfromspecifiedforeignlanguage to English.
- Ability to sightinterpret specifiedforeignlanguage or Englishdocumentsduring a proceeding,hearinginterviewandother court-relatedcommunicative events.
- Ability to maintainclear,concise,accurate,andinformative recordsandreports.
MinimumQualifications:
- Certificationby the IllinoisSupremeCourt or the certifyingbody of a sisterstaterecognizedby the IllinoisSupremeCourt,as a foreignlanguageCourtinterpreter.
- Inclusionas a “certifiedinterpreter”on the CourtInterpreterRegistrymaintainedby the AdministrativeOffice of the IllinoisCourts
- Strongcommitment to Access to Justice forall,particularlycourtuserswithlimited
- Understandingof anddemonstratedadherence to theInterpreters’ Code of Conduct.
- Ability to workcooperativelywithdiverse coworkersandcourtusers.
- Fluency in spokenandwrittenEnglishandspokenandwrittensecondlanguage.
- Twoyearsof experience as a court interpreter.
- Highschooldiploma or GED certificate;college degree preferred.
- Ability andwillingnesstotravel to all CircuitCourt of Cook Countycourthouses,placesof holdingcourt,andcourtannexedlocations;access to personaltransportationrequired.
- Proficiencyin the use of a smartphone,Microsoft Word, Outlook,Excelandinternetbrowser.
