Ocean Freight and Trade Compliance Specialist (Hybrid) - The ODP Corporation

Overview
This position will assist the Senior Manager and/or Director of International Transportation and Global Trade Compliance in managing and developing the ocean freight segment and compliance procedures throughout VEYER's Supply Chain Network. The role is responsible for identifying and recommending new global trade processes and procedures relating to import, export, and maintaining an effective compliance program. As a key team member, the incumbent will contribute to ocean freight negotiations, build relationships with steamship carriers, third-party providers, and internal VEYER Supply Chain facilities. They will manage core transportation needs for direct imports, procure and negotiate cost savings across all modes of international transportation, and closely interact with Domestic Supply Chain and Inventory Management teams. Additionally, the position involves overseeing international transportation operations, ensuring compliance with global trade laws and regulations, particularly focusing on tariffs and CTPAT certification. The successful candidate must have expertise in international shipping, tariff classification and management, and a comprehensive understanding of CTPAT standards, and will work across teams to ensure seamless, compliant, and secure global distribution of products.
Location: This is a hybrid role and candidates must be available to work from our HQ office in Boca Raton, FL a minimum of 3 days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Assist in leading, planning, developing, and implementing of effective international logistics strategies, policies, and compliance procedures that will provide the lowest landed cost of product while providing service to VEYER customers, both internally and externally.
+ Procure and negotiate on an annual basis competitive ocean freight rates with steamship carriers and Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers. Manage annual ocean bid, coordinate volume leverage with other global departments and internal groups.
+ Create and maintain compliance manuals and related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Develop forms, processes, and materials for distribution to vendors, customers and supply chain partners. Conduct internal audits and validations in U.S. and Asia. Lead root cause/corrective action reviews for all global trade compliance activities.
+ Maintain metrics related to transportation costs and volume specifics and maintaining close interaction with all warehouse /distribution centers within VEYER. Implement periodic training as necessary for business personnel to support global trade compliance.
+ Maintain key metrics and key performance indicators and will strive to reduce and maintain lead times and smooth container flow within each warehouse location. Along with developing contingency plans for issues related to international supply chain as needed.
Education and Experience:
+ Level of Formal Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
+ Area of Study: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, International Business, Logistics
+ Minimum Years of Experience: 7
+ Type of Experience: International Logistics, Imports/Exports, Global Trade Management
+ Special Certifications: Experience with Ocean Contract negotiations. US Customs Broker License (not a requirement)
+ Technical Competencies & Information Systems: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ACCESS). Good analytical and organizational skills
+ Skills & Abilities: Strong background in various areas of import/export ocean transportation, documentation and familiar with Global Trade Compliance policies and programs (i.e. CTPAT, ISA, Harmonized Tariff Codes). Leadership skills, including managing conflict, negotiation, cross-functional collaboration, and problem solving. Written and oral communication skills.
+ Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Personal Attributes & Other/Preferred: Independent worker with determination. Energetic and enthusiastic. Multitasker. International and Domestic travel may be required.
