**Harborview Medical Center - Rehabilitation Therapies** has an outstanding opportunity for a **OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT - ACUTE CARE.** **WORK SCHEDULE**
- 40 hours per week; 100% FTE
- Day Shift
**POSITION HIGHLIGHTS**
In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by patient), and staff across disciplines and departments, the OTA1 (COTA) will be responsible for directing, modifying and administering occupational therapy intervention, following evaluation by, and under supervision of, an occupational therapist. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides feedback to the occupational therapist in the development of the patient's treatment plan. Administers treatments and physical agents as determined by an occupational therapist's evaluation and, in regular consultation with an occupational therapist, in an effort to restore function and prevent further disability following injury, disease or physical disability.
Partners with the patient and family, and considering the patient's environment, assists an occupational therapist in evaluation, and administers treatment for functional living skills such as self care, homemaking, range of motion, strengthening, cognitive, visual perception, vocational and avocational skills, splinting, assistive technology and community integration. Reports data in both written and oral form following the policy and procedures of the OT department and the Medical Center. Helps orient work study students, and volunteers.

**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
Using feedback from the patient and family, provides information to the occupational therapist to incorporate into an appropriate evaluation as related to the therapy requested, observes and assess the effect of treatment and accurately reports to the occupational therapist in order to progress the treatment plan.
Involves the patient/family in collecting feedback for the occupational therapist to formulate the plan of care by interacting professional and compassionately with the patient/family.
In discussion with the patient and/or family, assesses patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation, makes appropriate provider contact for intervention.
Formulates a teaching plan, with the patient and family members, based upon identifies learning needs and assesses the effectiveness of learning in consultation with an occupational therapist.
Communicates, orally and in writing, appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, patients and their families, the administrative team, and outside entities. Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department.
Interacts respectfully with patients and their families. In collaboration with patients and their families, identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
Is attentive to ensure that the needs of patients and their families are met and hospital policy is followed. (For example: offering a glass of water, ensuring that the call light is accessible, etc.)
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
Participates in student training according to the AOTA guidelines of the department. Assists with orientation and in-service training, participates in guidance and educational programs.
Collaborates with patient and/or family members, and other departments, in the development of performance improvement activities.
Maintains productivity requirement.
Performs other duties as assigned.
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
Graduate of an approved educational program for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants
Completion of the American Occupational Therapy Association's Occupational Therapy Assistant certification examination
Current Washington State license, or license eligible to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
