Occupational Therapist - PRN, Temporary Position in our Children's Therapy Program
Easter Seals of Greater Houston, a leading provider of service to people of all ages, with any type of disability is currently seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist for our Children's Therapy Program.
Role and Responsibilities
- Assess developmental skills of assigned clients from birth to the third birthday:
- Collect information from case history, parent report, observation of child, and other professionals.
- Interpret evaluation results, develop diagnostic impressions, and make recommendations.
- Implement specific, reasonable, and necessary intervention plans for children experiencing developmental delays, atypical behaviors, and/or certain medical diagnosis based on evaluation findings and the Individual Family Service Plan.
- State Requirement: Plan must be written within the 45 day timeline.
- Schedule and prioritize direct and indirect service activities within established timelines; document professional contacts in a timely manner.
- Provide direct services to children and their families at home, daycare, or other "natural environment". State Requirement: Services must begin within 28 days of writing the IFSP.
- Complete management tools, timesheets, expense reports, schedules, Random Moment Time Study (RMTS) and any other required paperwork; submit on time to Director/Assistant Director and/or appropriate personnel as designated in procedures.
- Insure maximum service delivery through management of a Director/Assistant Director-approved schedule (based on assigned caseload by intensity, frequency, and location of services). State requirement: 40% of staff's time is spent in direct service.
- Knowledge of when and how to refer and request appropriate equipment for children, self-help skills, fine motor skills and sensory integration theories.
- Knowledge and ability to order and manipulate hand and elbow splints.
- Knowledge of feeding techniques and adapting oral motor needs. Communicate effectively with families, physicians, other agency representatives, co-workers, and the community at large.
- Serve as the Service Coordinator for assigned clients as outlined in the Service Coordination Module.
- Participate with other department staff members in the development and presentation of educational materials, in-services, and training courses.
- Identify and refer children/families for related services including, but not limited to, audiological, educational, medical, psychological, sociological, or other EASTER SEALS Programs such as the toy lending library, respite, and all other EASTER SEALS services as needed.
- Supervise and oversee OT students. Notify your Director/Assistant Director when out for vacation, sick time, or personal business.
- Maintain ethical and professional conduct. Conduct should reflect the code of ethics and standards of recognized professional licensing organizations within each discipline and of EASTER SEALS of Greater Houston.
- Adhere to all EASTER SEALS and ECI policies and procedures as reflected in the EASTER SEALS Employee Guidelines and the ECI Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Participate in general staff meetings, departmental and managerial meetings, and other meetings as assigned by your Director/Assistant Director, Program Director or Chief Executive Officer.
- Serve as an ambassador for EASTER SEALS by volunteering at EASTER SEALS events. Be available for agency fairs and speaking engagements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by your Director/Assistant Director, Assistant Director, Program Director or Chief Executive Officer.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Continuing Education Units (preferably in topics relating to the Birth to Three population).
- Minimum of three years' experience in occupational therapy preferred. One of the three years preferred in the infant/toddler population.
- Occupational Therapy License for Texas required.

- Professionalism including attendance, punctuality, discipline, accuracy, neatness, courtesy, penmanship (including neatness and legibility), and acceptable relationships with co-workers.
