Occupational Therapist (OT) at Verbal Beginnings

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the provision of occupational therapy services ancillary to Applied Behavior Analysis at Verbal Beginnings. Verbal Beginnings’ vision of providing clients with a comprehensive service will be fulfilled in part by this position. Targeted ancillary services will be made available to clients of Verbal Beginnings in the areas of Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health services.  The incumbent will work collaboratively with the supervising BCBA, the behavior therapist, and other ancillary providers to ensure a positive working relationship. 

1. Applies knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the client served (infant, pediatric, adolescent, and young adult).
2. Demonstrates competence, awareness, and sensitivity of the physical, emotional and socio-psychological needs of infants through young adulthood.
3. Assesses the client’s home, community, and school environments and makes necessary adjustments if needed to promote generalization of acquired skills.
4. Advises on what equipment would suit the client for their everyday activities and helps the clients and caregivers utilize them.
5. Develops physical rehabilitation programs to help clients regain lost fine motor skills.
6. Conducts physical and psychological evaluations within the established time frame. Demonstrates skill in appropriate selection, administration and interpretation of standardized and non-standardized assessments using age specific criteria for each age population served.
7. Develops and implements treatment plan according to a valid prescription and in accordance with Verbal Beginning’s policies and procedures.
8. Evaluates client’s condition regarding physical and basic mental health as well as establishes goals that occupational therapy will treat and adjusts programs based on client’s needs and skills.
9. Establishes a plan of care for each client including mutually established goals while considering the client’s age and educational level. Progress toward goals will be documented and reported to the interdisciplinary team according to departmental and applicable regulatory policy.
10. Prepares and maintains accurate client care records according to departmental protocols and demonstrate basic competency for completing accurate billing and electronic documentation submission.
11. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to utilize departmental equipment safely and appropriately for client care activities.
12. Provides oversight to ensure quality, effectiveness, and generalization of occupational therapy services.
13. Maintains certification and licensure.
14. Supervises occupational therapy assistants (as needed) in accordance with state and AOTA guidelines.
15. Promotes and participates in interdisciplinary training(s) as an individual and/or as part of an interdisciplinary team. Oversees the implementation of training and continuing education plans for students interning under the comprehensive services program.
16. Promotes, develops, and participates in training activities at the local, state, national, and international levels, including the development and dissemination of curricula, workshops, poster and paper presentations, scholarly publications, book chapters, monographs, and textbooks.
17. Promotes and participates in both discipline and interdisciplinary research both as an individual and as a program lead.
18. Maintain an average weekly service delivery of 30 hours of direct treatment for skilled services in the domain of occupational therapy

Work Environment:

This role will work within the centers.  Settings may sometimes operate in clients’ homes, in the community, or in the professional office environment.

1. Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy

2. Passing grade on the National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy Exam

3. Current license as Occupational Therapist in state of practice
