Responsibilities
The Occupational Therapist will be responsible to provide occupation therapy services to our patients with Intellectual Disabilities
Clinical
- Facilitate development and rehabilitation of patients with IDD by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy.
- Meet the patient's goals and needs and provide quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results.
- Develop occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Assist patient in developing and maximizing physical and mental functioning.
- Implement programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities.
- Direct treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants.
- Promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
- Prepare patient for potential employment by consulting with employers, determining potential difficulties, retraining employees, and helping employers understand necessary physical and job result accommodations.
- Evaluate results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress.
- Recommend and implement adjustments and modifications to therapeutic interventions.
- Interview patients, care givers, guardians as needed to make recommendations.
- Assure continuation of therapeutic plan by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs, recommending and / or providing assistive equipment, and recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
- Document patient care services by charting in electronic health records (EHR).
- Adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics at all times.
- Model an attitude of mentoring and teamwork.
- Work with Leadership Team in development of, implementation of and adherence to best-practice standards and clinical protocols.
Education / Training / Licensure
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy
Professional licensure
BLS certification
Preferred Experience
Minimum 1 year experience working with patients with IDD.
