POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the Clinical Nurse Manager. This position provides direct and indirect Occupational Therapy (OT) services, within the scope of licensure to Adult and Adolescent Behavioral Health (BH) inpatients. The incumbent will assist with developing treatment plans, coordinate appropriate groups and individual standardized assessments, complete documentation requirements, provide consultations, and make recommendations to the patient and the team for patient's maximal functioning. Identifies supports necessary for community based living. Contributes to creating a caring and compassionate environment through ECHN's Core Values of Respect, Teamwork and Communication.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) received from an Accredited College or University. State OTR license required.
- Must be trained in PMT and de-escalation techniques, as prescribed by ECHN, and receive certification within 6 months of hire into the role.
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in working with the chronic BH / psychiatric population preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
- This position requires strong clinical skills including a demonstrated strong team orientation.
- Strong written as well as verbal communication using the English language is absolutely essential.
- Computer competency with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook is essential.
- Flexibility in approach is vital so that treatment can be individualized meeting each patient's needs.
- Excellence in time management a must.
- Must be capable of taking swift and efficient action, including patient restraint when responding to patient emergency codes.

2. Develops treatment plans including age appropriate goals and interventions, which are written in specific, measurable, and time specific terms as evidenced by chart reviews |
3. Implements age appropriate, patient specific treatment as evidenced by knowledge of patient's clinical issues, level of functioning, review of patient's history and treatment plan. |
4. Communicates and coordinates patient's plan of care as evidenced by feedback from the treatment team and successful patient outcomes. |
5. Completes all required documentation, in a timely manner in accordance with ECHN Departmental/Behavioral Health standards, policies and procedures as evidenced by chart review. |
6. Provides supervision on group topics and group skills to inpatient staff as evidenced by direct observation of groups. |
7. Provides input to patient schedules as evidenced by patient plan incorporating such input |
8. Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth as evidenced by pursuing and attending relevant educational opportunities. |
9. Actively participates and collaborates in team meetings, providing pertinent, functional clinical information as needed for patient care as evidenced by enhanced patient planning and feedback received from the treatment team. |
10. Responds to needs for individualized and comprehensive services as evidenced by providing services individually and / or in a group setting. |
11. Increases the visibility of Occupational Therapy services as evidenced by participation in activities that promote recovery through the use of functionally based therapeutic modalities. |
12. Demonstrates effective time management skills as evidenced by timely scheduling and completion of evaluation, treatment and consultation activities as well as written recommendations. |
13. Effectively uses psychological and physical management techniques to manage violent or potentially violent situations consistent with Physical Management Training (PMT), as evidenced by peer and supervisor observation. |
