ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY
- Under the general supervision of the manager, the Student Assistant is responsible for assisting with various tasks. This position is designed to provide opportunities to students to hone customer service skills, team development, and foster professional growth.
ABOUT US
- As the largest employer of students on Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):The Student Assistant may be assigned one or various positions within the operation. Various positions including:
Nutrition Emphasis- Assist in implementing nutrition programs or initiatives aimed at promoting health and wellness.
- Handle administrative tasks related to nutrition services, such as scheduling appointments and maintaining updated menus.
- Organize and conduct workshops, seminars, or nutrition-related events for campus community.
- Collaborate with campus wellness programs to integrate nutrition into a holistic approach to student well-being.
- Utilize social media, campus events, and other platforms to share nutritional tips and information.
- Use data insights to make recommendations for improving campus nutrition programs.
- Prepare fruits, vegetables, meats, doughs, marinades and seasonings for the chefs and line cooks in advance of daily peak dining hours
- Consult both standard stocking requirements as well as pick lists prepared by executive chef to pull items from cold storage to thaw before preparation
- Thoroughly sanitize all kitchen surfaces as well as tools and utensils, and wash and clean all food prior to preparation
- Document all items pulled from storage into the preparation area, detailing any foods and/or liquids (i.e., oils and marinades) that end up going to waste
- Follow the instruction of the executive chef as to the use of leftover food items prepared in excess of daily requirements
- Coordinate with wait staff to determine diner volumes in order to anticipate if and when more prep work needs to be done to accommodate increased demands
- Assist chefs with the preparation of dishes (including retrieving and preparing items for special orders) as needed
- High School Diploma or equivalent general education degree (GED);
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
- Obtain ServeSafe Certification within 30 days of hire date for individuals handling food items
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance as well as adhere to schedule
- Work schedule is subject to change due to campus holidays and holiday break closures.
- Current CPP Junior or Senior Standing with emphasis in Nutrition/Health.
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Knowledge of nutritional principles, dietary guidelines, and meal planning.
