Beacon Medical Group (BMG), part of Beacon Health System, is seeking a dedicated Neurosurgical Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team. This role is integral in coordinating and delivering exceptional patient care across pre-, intra-, and post-operative settings. Working under the guidance of attending physicians, the Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical and administrative support to ensure optimal patient outcomes and an enhanced care experience.

Key Responsibilities:
Intraoperative and Surgical Care:
- Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning, skin preparation, and anesthesia administration.
- Assist as a first or second surgical assistant, performing tasks such as surgical exposure, dissection, wound closure, and application of immobilization devices.
- Operate and manage monitoring devices, including radiographic equipment.
Inpatient Care:
- Conduct daily rounds, document medical plans, and manage routine inpatient care, including diagnostic tests, labs, medications, and nutrition.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans while maintaining communication with patients' families.
- Perform medical procedures such as inserting indwelling lines and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitors.
- Respond to emergencies, providing immediate care until the attending physician arrives.
- Oversee patient discharges, including follow-up care, therapy arrangements, and patient education.
Outpatient Care:
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations, and develop individualized care plans.
- Document and code diagnoses to ensure accurate insurance reimbursement.
- Educate patients and families on pre-and post-operative care, answering questions and providing guidance.
- Perform therapeutic procedures, including suturing and wound care.
- Respond to on-call messages and phone calls as part of the schedule.
Administrative and Collaborative Responsibilities:
- Contribute to clinic and office process improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
- Participate in quality improvement programs aimed at ensuring high-quality care and positive patient outcomes.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring clinical protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare staff to ensure timely, effective care.
- Complete additional job-related duties as assigned.
Professional Development and Compliance:
- Stay current with relevant legislation and clinical best practices by attending seminars, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain all required certifications and licenses in good standing.
- Fulfill organizational health and safety requirements, including completing mandatory training and competencies.
- Adhere to Beacon Health System’s policies, procedures, and compliance standards.

Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Valid and current RN license in Indiana.
- Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with national certification.
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience in a relevant specialty area.
- Completion of a six-month Nurse Practitioner internship (for new graduates).
- Prescriptive authority certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
Preferred:
- Master of Science in Nursing.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of medical practices, policies, and procedures specific to neurosurgery.
- Strong analytical skills to assess, evaluate, and manage patient care.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively engage with patients, families, physicians, and the healthcare team.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication to ensure clear and concise dissemination of information.
- Thorough knowledge of Nurse Practitioner legal guidelines and scope of practice.
Working Conditions:
Environment:
- Work primarily in clinical and hospital settings, including operating rooms and inpatient units.
- Potential exposure to biohazards and other environmental risks typical of a healthcare setting.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods.
- Physical strength to lift or assist with patient transfers (up to 35 lbs unassisted).
- Capability to perform emergency care, including CPR, when needed.
