Nurse Practitioner/PA, Emergency Department - $4,875 Sign-on* - Boston Children's Hospital

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for:

• The assessment and management of patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints.
• Working in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, medical students, RNs, clinical assistants and others in the Emergency Department.
• Performing detailed histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing and executing a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking.
• Engaging in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care.
• Performing emergency medicine procedures (including laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint relocations, splinting, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks).  
• Developing discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Working to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals.
• Communicating with patient and family in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care. Instructing and counseling patients regarding physical and mental health issues.
• Up to 39hrs per week, 9hr night shifts, Monday – Thursday (11:00pm – 8:00am) with occasional Friday night need. No weekends.

To qualify, you must have:

• A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
• Pediatric NP, Family NP or PA license required.
• 1-2 years of NP or PA Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience required.
• Pediatric experience preferred.

*Sign-on bonus of $4,875.00  (for people who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
