PSV has an exciting employment opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner supporting our Outpatient Pulmonary Medicine Clinic, located in Fairfax, VA. This position is Full-Time working from 8:00AM - 5:00PM, M-F.

Under the supervision of the Attending Physician, the Nurse Practitioner will exercise independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures in accordance with the nurse practitioner licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for Nurse Practitioner. He/she will communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others. This person will also be responsible for demonstrating respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines, and using an integrated approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. He or she will utilize evidenced-based standards, guidelines, and protocols for care delivery and incorporate data and information to continuously improve care and practice. The Nurse Practitioner will ensure improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning and provide direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serve as a resource, and mentor.
Job Description
Clinical/Medical Practice:
- Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of healthcare issues in the designated specialty. Prescribes legend drugs according to PSV guidelines.
- Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the population in practice while administering quality patient care.
- Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
- Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with federal and state regulatory standards.
- Participates in multidisciplinary patient care, discharge planning, and resource case management.
Evidence-based Professional Practice and Research:
- Ensures that advanced nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice through the use of scientific and theoretical foundation for practice and on-going education and research on evidence-based practice.
- Provides nursing leadership in advancing evidence-based nursing practice.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, and assists with process and protocol development and revision based on research and evidence of effectiveness, in order to advance the efficient, appropriate and effective delivery of care.
- Participates in clinical research and data collection, and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty.
- Participates in community activities to promote community outreach.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- All employees must pass an employment TB, drug and physical exam
- Bachelors in Nursing
- Unexpired BLS
- Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, or certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing.
- Continuing education credits necessary to maintain national board certification, and state licensure.
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience as a RN in pediatrics.
- Training specific to specialty (e.g. ACLS, NALS, PALS, ENCC, ATLS, NRP)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills.
- APRN licensure in Virginia. CPR certified. PALS certified if necessary.
- Eligible for Medical Staff credentialing.
- Pharmaceutical licensure as applicable.
