JOB SUMMARY
Implement a comprehensive program of health services for campus. Collaborate with parents, educators, and community healthcare to students. School nurses are accountable to practice in accordance with the National Association of School Nurses (NASA), the Missouri Board of Nursing and the policies and procedures of the Normandy School District, and to promote health education and preventive health practices for students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Nursing Services
- Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures
- Screen, evaluate and refer appropriately for findings of deficits in vision, hearing, and development, etc.
- Notify parents of accident or illness; secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached). Initiate referrals for intervention and follow-up
- Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school. Administer medications according to district policy and procedures
- Develop and coordinate continuing education of campus health program and recommend changes based on findings
- Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data o accommodate the individual needs of students
- Provide crisis intervention for acute illnesses and injuries
- Authorize exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
- Provide individual health education and counseling to students and parents to assist families in making decisions on health and lifestyle changes that affect health
- Promote and assist in the control of communicable disease through monitoring of immunizations, prevention, early detection, observation, reporting and referral for care of contagious diseases
- Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community
- Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed
- Participate in Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees
- Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse
- Review and evaluate immunization records
- Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate updated health records on all students
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory (per district procedures)
- Prepare and submit reports for the Superintendent, Coordinator of Health Services, Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri State Board of Health
- Report potential health and safety hazard to principal
- Comply with all district and campus policies and regulations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to implement policies and procedures
- Strong clinical background
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- A valid Missouri state license to practice as a registered nurse (or LPN, where applicable)
- BSN in nursing (where applicable)
- Two years experience in a school setting or community health preferred
- CPR certified
- E-verify eligible
REQUIREMENT
- Maintain certification in CPR, vision and hearing screening, and as a health screener
