Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view.
Responsibilities:
•Performsdiagnosticnuclear medicine,therapeutic nuclear medicine,PET scanning,cardiac stress lab functions, and
radiopharmacyfunctionsas required.If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also
perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
•Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
•Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
•Adheres toOrlando Healthmission statements andstrategic imperatives.
•Performs allnuclear medicinedynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies.
•Performs SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required byguidelinesor physician order.
•Performs PET imaging on arotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directedby interpreting physician, asrequired.
•Performsall computer acquisition, and processing and documentation as required by procedure.
•Performsquality controlon all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlinedby written procedure or manufacturesguidelines.
•Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required.
•Maintains records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
•Performs allsafety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
•Performs venipuncture andevaluatesIV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical and medication administration as
prescribed by a licensed practitioner. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also
administer contrast as required by guidelines or physician order.
•Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses and calculates exact patient dosages as required by law and maintains records of such.
•Assists in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.
•Participates in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program.
•Ensures safety ofall customers.
•Maintainsreasonably regular,punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA,and other
federal, state,and local standards.
•Maintainscompliance with all Orlando Health policies,department guidelines,andeducation requirements.
Education/Training
Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
Licensure/Certification
Must meet ONE of the following in totality:
Maintains current certification as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) –OR

Maintains current certification as an (ARRT) (N) American Registry of Radiology Technologists in Nuclear Medicine
Must meet ALL of the following:
- Maintains current Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

None. Must have knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures and radiation safety.
